Yep - the name of the club in Colorado is "Our Gang 4-Wheelers" A super neat group of folks doing a great job of sharing thier sport - they have an awesome website. ourgangiceracing.com/OurGang.htmlWhen Darel and I went down - we rented a set of "cheaters" from one of the club members - that $50 wa the best money we ever spent. Way easier than investing the $400 on the tires and materials and the 50+ hours it takes to build a set of 4.

The race truck has been hibernating in the shop for the last 18 months but we are going racing this season come hell or high water. Life is just too short to not play with your toys. We've removed all of the clutter that was stacked in and on the racer, wiped off a bit of the dust and started the "to do" list. 1. Fab additional motor mount system - the torque is snapping the motor mount bolts off at the block and that's not good... 2. New cooling fans for the radiator - flying sticks and stones have left us with "alternating" fins - not enough to keep the beast cool. 3. New wheels - ours are more "square" than "round" 4. New tires - we've been running buckshots on the front and desert dogs on the rear (all bias-ply) and we're going to make the move to all radial. Still researching exact tread. 5. New seats - looking for some NEW low profile, full suspension, Beard seats - wide & tall. 6. If the planets align - maybe some new paint. Does anyone know a good fiberglass guy with reasonable prices? Not looking for show quality - just want something fresh. Long term dream stuff - probably not happening this year... 1. Coil over suspension Already found the wheels at the Puyallup Swapmeet - so that's one thing off the list...

What are you looking to have fiberglassed? I know a guy and I will get you his info tonight. I'm not sure he wants his info posted on the forum. Cool - thanks Ryan. I am looking for someone who can do some minor repairs (wear and tear) on the racer Jeep fiberglass body and then add a scoop to the hood. The scoop is to deflect walls of mud rolling over the hood and into the air cleaner more than for air feed or appearance. It would be cool if the same shop could lay down the paint as well as the fiberglass repairs and scoop addition. Just looking for a simple "Eleanor" type paint scheme (Ford charcoal and 2 black stripes). I am looking for someone reasonable - this is not a show truck - immediate and ongoing damage is imminent in this sport. It's been 15 years since we painted - we're long overdue... I will deliver the body to the shop loose from the vehicle - easier to manage that way... Thanks again Ryan - I look forward to talking to you tonight! Crystal

I always love it when a plan starts coming together... Beadlock wheels - check (thanks Chris and TrailReady) New 30x950-15 BFG's - check (thanks Jody for the great pricing from 4 Wheel Parts in Portland) New Beard seats ordered from Oregon Motorsports 2000 - check (thanks Kris) Appointment to meet with the body and paint guy - check (thanks Ryan for the recommendation - Mike will be here this week) Maybe new full hydro steering components (?) Tom (??) maybe ( ) Now I just need to find the window nets, new control box, the remote kill switch, and probably some new shocks. Darel will be a VERY, VERY, VERY busy boy when we get back from Maob! ;D

I can't wait to see this thing with it's new shoes and jacket. Lucky Darel with the pile of new parts and a coat of paint he'll think you bought him a new race truck. Now you just need a set of KM2's for the CJ and the whole fam would match

I can't wait to see this thing with it's new shoes and jacket. Lucky Darel with the pile of new parts and a coat of paint he'll think you bought him a new race truck. Well it was either $50,000 and 2 plus years to build a buggy or $5-10k to polish and tune-up the racer and go play this summer. I think we're both happy with the compromise. There are not many places in the Pacific Northwest to play with a buggy anyway - we would constantly be struggling to find time off to travel to find challenging terrain. I'm sure Crushers would only be entertaining for a short period of time... With the race truck, there is a race somewhere in the Northwest just about every weekend of the season - and when there's not a race - there's always Sand Lake, Florence, Moses Lake and Christmas Valley... We really do hope you guys have time to come and and play with us this season - some races Darel will need navigators, shotgunners, pit crews, chase trucks and sometimes even drivers. Alot of the races allow passengers and/or multiple drivers. Now you just need a set of KM2's for the CJ and the whole fam would match We love to support our sponsors who support our projects! The ProComps on the CJ are still good for a little while longer. Maybe new shoes for the CJ next year - our "play money" for this year is going, going, going, going....and will soon be all gone!

Hey Lance - hi-jack any time you want - that's what threads are for, right? LOL Just hollar if you need any extra hands for that engine swap - you've always been a great help to us and we would love an opportunity to pay the favor back... Wild Hare live is coming along nicely. Yesterday, I met with Ryan's paint and body guy, Mike - great guy. He showed up driving a Toyota 4x4 with a camo-flamed front end - loved it! We negotiated a fair deal for the fiberglass work and paint and he will get started on it as soon as I get the hardware and decals off of the body so I can deliver it out to Amboy. I'm really tired tonight - maybe tomorrow... Finally made up my mind which hood scoop I wanted - so many options, so little room on the hood. Found this one with Summit Racing - UPS will be here in 2-3 short business days... They call it the "Outlaw Cowl Scoop" - looks more like a Z-28 scoop to me - but whatever. This scoop measures 42" long x 26" wide x 4" tall - it barely fits on the flat top of the body hood. Now the question is - will I be able to see over the 4" scoop to drive the beast? Haha... Sent an e-mail to Larry Trim at Trail Ready to see about getting some "slim" rock rings and all new hardware (bolts) for the wheels - I think those big wide rock rings are just going to gather too much crap. I also worry about them gathering up a big wheel-full of goop and slingling it at spectators - I think the slim rings will be better... TTFN Crystal

Well the scoop arrived pretty quickly from Summit - ordered late Thursday March 22nd and arrived Monday March 26th - that'll work. I like the "attitude" it gives the racer - it looks a little more aggressive now instead of a just a quiet little Jeep. LOL Darel took mercy on me and removed all the hardware and decals from the body last weekend while I chased paperwork around the office - thanks honey! Delivered the body and scoop off to Ryan's paint and body guy out in Amboy - picked the colors and finalized all the details. I can't wait to see the finished product - I'm almost giddy... Poor little racetruck looks all naked and pitiful sitting there in the bay - I almost feel like I need to throw a blanket or something over him. "It's OK little racetruck - things are gonna get better - I promise we'll go and and play very soon..." We might have to just go with the big rock rings - Larry didn't have any blems or used slim rings we could make a deal on - even at the discounted price of $90 a ring ($360) - it still takes me out of budget. Rock rings it shall be! You've been warned - if you are coming out to spectate - better wear your helmets... Now to find new switch panels - Darel left me a post-it-note for a Moroso part number 74135 - I'm off to google-shop now. Darel and I have been so busy lately - the only chance he has to keep up on what's going on with the racetruck is to read my posts here - too funny... Crystal

Moab trip kinda kicked our butts - we're having a hard time getting back in the swing of things. Stopped by on Monday to check out the progress on the fiberglass and paint. Scoop is on, fiberglass repairs almost complete - should be ready for paint soon. Darel attacked the motor mount issues on Friday. Now need to figure out the shock situation. House and yard stuff took over most of the weekend - hopefully we'll get some time later this week to get back to it... The new Beard seats should arrive by the end of next week. That's about it for now - we be slackin'. I can't wait to see the final paint.
