Hey Lance,
I think that was me on the shirt that year - I love that shirt. If you loved racing at Washougal - this should bring back some memories. Darel and Larry Curtis banging bumpers and ripping up some earth. This was at the PNW4WDA Barrel Extravaganza in Longview on May 5th of this year.
Thanks for your comments - we hope to have the "Wild Hare" (we call her Eleanor) back to 100% by this summer.
I really suck at keeping this post updated. I will try to do better... ;D
This is the unhappy camper after he found out that he had to completely refab both the seat mounting frames as well as re-fab the cage to fit the new seats (that I ordered) into the racer. DO NOT be fooled by that smile - he is pissed at me and I am trying to make him laugh.
So - to get ready for Desert Racing short course - we had to add window nets...
and fuel cell lid safety cable...
Picked up some fresh "go juice" - gonna run VP110 from here on out. I was able to wrangle some very reasonable pricing from Tarr Inc. over on Columbia Blvd in North Portland. And even better - they stock VP110 all the time so I don't have to buy way ahead and store of bunch fuel in the shop - niiiiiice.
After all that fuss - we suffered an engine casualty early in the races and had to call it a weekend - broken rocker stud.
Body off - AGAIN.
Out with the old...
While we are awaiting the super fast, super amazing Archie Somers to refresh our little Ford Windsor after eight very long years of wear and tear - Darel attacked refabbing the seat mounts and re-designing the cage.
New seat mounts just primered.
Rear cage support spreader before (not a very good pic)
And after - not alot of options to work with - but we are confident we did not lose any safety capacity.
Back to the good stuff. In with the new and maaaayyybeee improved power plant.
Darel noticed some steering issues just before we broke the rocker stud. After chasing our tails for an afternoon - he found that the steering quickner had taken a hit from the front differential at the desert race and one end was "out of round" to say the least. Temporarily replaced the straight sleeve with a joint to get us by until we have time to install full hydro.
We are trying to get everything buttoned down to go and race up in Ethel, Washington for July 7-8th for the Free Wheelers / 4 @ a Time PNW4WDA race.
If all goes well there - we plan on taking Eleanor down to Sand Lake for some poser shots (before she gets thrashed again) over the July 14-15th weekend. Eleanor loves, loves, loves to play on the hillclimbs below sunset hill.
Wish us luck. From the looks of the start of the season - we are going to need it...
Next update should be installation of the PSC full hydro steering system - I can't wait to put all of this nasty steering mess in the past - I think we have been fighting one steering issue or another since the day we bought this rig.
Summer is here (well, sort of) and I can't wait to get out and play!
Thanks for reading.
