Starting with an 85 K5 with no engine, 700r4 trans, and NP208 t case. The Axles are 14 bolt FF and Dana 44. My plan is to first get a sbc in it.. It has an LS motor currently, but the guy I'm buying it from wants it.. I don't need huge hp in an offroad rig, or an engine tempting me to easily make it, so I will find a carbed 350 to go in. Suspension will be a hillbilly deluxe shackle flip and 52" springs in the front after upgrading to crossover steering. It may get 4" springs up front for a while before I find a side to side steering box. The kicker is this vehicle is getting 38 inch tires on a 4" lift.. Low center of gravity is my friend. I'm going to take the sawzall to the fenders and cut them very large and then bend some tube around to make some tube fenders. Also tubing the rockers and maybe making boat sides or something to keep from 2.5 foot dents being placed there like my old cherokee got. I know large vehicles don't fare well in Wa and OR... therefore this blaze is getting a tubular rubber so to speak. Protection. One of my upgrade pics shows exo cage but that was just cause I didn't know how just fender tubes would look... And they are bright colored to show as a drawing, not actual color idea. Attachments:

I am really disapointed in the choice of tires for a 16" rim.. I did find a Toyo M/T in 38 x 14.5 16.. Should probably roll a 10" wide rim but I got 8".. I can get lots of interco tires in a 16" but I really don't wanna spend $500 to $900 a tire that wishes it could do pavement without being 25% tread in a year. My choices are to get that Toyo and put it on an 8" rim or upgrade to 17" rims to widen my choices.. but that means same thing as putting on swampers... pay a bunch.

btw, that little license plate in front of my front axle in the last pic is from a samurai my foreman is building and yes it is sitting on shopping cart frames.. That little bugger is getting toy axles, atlas, vr4 engine (turbo'd), and link suspension.. All the parts are at the shop for install, but he is working on a Fairlane 500 currently so the little tin top is on hold.

dam that sounds nice and the roll cage on that beast will look good u know i have had luck with craigslist for tires it depends how much u wanna pay but i picked up 6 33. 12.5 super swampers for 100 bucks they were about 40 to 50 percent tread but i have also seen better deals for more money as long as u dont mind tires with like 80 percent tread let other people spend the big bucks lol usually u can get full sets for 2 to 3 hundred dollars less than what they paid and the tires are still brand new just dont have the hair on them. i am also running 15 inch tires though so they are more comen tire than a 16 but i have seen them

yeah, the 16's are proving to be a pain... I don't wanna upgrade to 17's because I plan on getting a full spare and adding 5 rims to 5 tires is a lot of frog skins.

Update: Instead of looking for a sbc or a 454 the previous owner and I are making a deal for the 5.3L LS based engine that is already bolted in. Here is the deal... 6.0L intake and injectors, the adapter/spacer widget is already done and bolted in for 700R4, heads are clean/gone through ready to attach.. all I need to do is get the kickdown cable adapter for $30 or whatev and get an ecu and program it for a manual transmission so it doesn't try to control the transmission. With this engine I have a lot more HP potential then a 350, 383 or 454 if I want it, but for now I'll leave it the way it is and enjoy not having a carb or TBI.

Got the title and paperwork for the blazer today and it is as thick as a large book. Looks like all the reciepts from 1985 til current are there and even the original brocher. Time to start modding soon.. First thing is getting interior buttoned up and engine.
