Through the week of Sunday, July 28th to Sunday, August 4th JCTRA will be doing a major work party to upgrade a large section of the Jones Creek trail system that has a long history of flooding and creating resource damage.
The scheduled Saturday, July 27th work party has been rescheduled to Sunday, July 28th to support this effort.
Sunday, July 28th we'll need volunteers to help drill holes in peeler cores (logs) to be used for the project. JCTRA and the DNR will be providing drills and generators for that purpose for no personal equipment is necessary. We'll be using the club 6x6's to stage piles of two hole cinder blocks throughout the project area for use next week. Finally we'll be doing some surveying to measure relevant elevations and distances for this project.
Monday thru Wednesday have been ear-marked primarily for excavator work so we won't need volunteers on those days.
Thursday, August 1st is when the work starts. Thursday and Friday we need to get all the cinder blocks set and the peeler cores installed using re-bar. This is all hand work and we'll need as many volunteers as possible for this phase.
As Thursday and Friday are work days for many people, we are going to be working into the evening in hopes that we can get some volunteers to come out in the afternoon/evening to help with this important part of the project.
IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE TO COME AND HELP OUT IN THE AFTERNOON OR EVENING ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY PLEASE EMAIL US AT mike.ames@jctra.org AND LET US KNOW THAT YOU'LL BE COMING!!
If you can make it Thursday or Friday later in the day, afternoon, or evening you can find the work site by simply continuing down the road that goes through the Jones Creek Staging Area about a 1/4 mile until you see several large piles of rock on the side of the road. There will also be a few vehicles parked nearby. From there follow the trail backwards (in reverse of the normal direction of travel) for about another 1/4 mile and you'll find the work site.
We'll have this section of trail closed off for the entire week for this project...so you may see some signage indicating a detour or re-route. DO NOT FOLLOW THOSE SIGNS TO REACH THE WORK AREA! Follow the trail in the other direction and you'll come right to the work site.
Saturday and Sunday, August 3rd and 4th we hope to mainly be hauling rock using the club 6x6's and ATV Wagon trailer. We'll still need volunteers to help out Saturday and Sunday, but mainly just during the usual day time work party hours. Saturday and Sundays work parties begin at 9:00AM at the Jones Creek Staging Area.
This is a major project, one of the biggest we've ever tried to complete. We're asking people to dig deep on this one and volunteer as much as you can. We really need the help!
As always, please bring gloves and come dressed for the weather.
You will need a Discovery Pass for this work party HOWEVER THE DNR WILL BE ON HAND WITH TEMPORARY PASSES FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS. This work party is open to the public and does qualify as volunteer hours toward a FREE DISCOVERY PASS.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer your time please contact mike.ames@jctra.org
