Hi Everyone,
Last Saturday, Darel, Rick, Kira and I went out to visit a little private island just west of Woodland, Washington. This is about a 20 acre island surrounded by the scenic Columbia River on the west and the north and about a 25' foot wide canal on the east.
Also joining us on that day were representatives from two other clubs in the Pacific Northwest 4-Wheel Drive Association: 4 @ a Time and Vancouver 4-Wheelers.
This meeting was an opportunity for the three clubs to meet with Lonnie and Burle Sargent to discuss the possibilities of creating some event courses on their island for future off-road competitions including sand drags, obstacle course and barrels.
The meeting went very well and we have started the beginning phases of designing a layout of the event courses. We will also be scheduling work parties over the next few months to prepare the property for an actual event in either August or September of 2009 (this year). We will be opening this up for further discussion at the club meeting (next Tuesday, May 12th).
I just wanted to give everyone an update on what we were working on and to invite open discussion about this much needed event property in SW Washington. Your comments and suggestions are encouraged.
I didn't get a chance to take any pictures last Saturday because of the rain - but the property owner sent me some archived pictures of his friends and family recreating on the island.
This is such a beautiful island and we are so fortunate that the owners just happen to be motorsports enthusiasts. We look forward to an opportunity to share this with all of you soon. For the upcoming work parties, the owner will be allowing free overnight camping for all volunteers.
I just spoke again last night with Lonnie Sargent and he indicated that he and his brother, Burle are really looking forward to working with us on this project. Darel and I are equally excited about an opportunity to race right here in our "back yard" and are looking forward to many great "club" activities on this beautiful little island...
Respectfully reporting,
Crystal Crowder
