Oregon Trophy Challenge May 13th-15th 2016
On Thursday the 12th I was leaving Pauls house around 11:45pm after another unsuccessful attempt at getting the hydraulic assist on the CJ to work properly. It was not a promising start for team 17 to this years OTC.
Friday afternoon Carmmal and I stopped in Banks to top off the LJ and grab last minute camping supplies. Shawn and Paul rolled in for supplies right when we finished fueling up.
When we arrived to Browns Camp Tom was already there with a spot for us. We offloaded our Jeeps, setup camp, and were ready for tech when Andy arrived.
We passed with flying colors!
After we passed tech we were given our start and finish times for Saturday (7:38am to 9:08pm) and a list of 10 different GPS coordinates that we would need to find before we finished Saturday night. At each GPS coordinates there was a hole punch to mark our score card with to prove that we were there. Not knowing where Saturdays event would lead us we decided to start tracking down the hole punches right then. Tom and Andy put all of the coordinates into the GPS and came up with a route to track them all down. The first one that we went to was on Powerline trail.
After a little searching we found it.
I dont remember all where we went. Some of the punches were on trails, others were off of roads. We were trying to find as many as we could before it got dark.
Tom and I were ready for business!
This spot was the farthest west that we were going on Friday night. Im glad that we werent the only team lost here. It was the wrong spot and we ended up hiking up a long nasty hill just to find our hole punch hanging from a tree at the end of another road. As we were getting back to the rigs we felt our first rain drop of the weekend. It would not be the last.
We still had a hand full of hole punches to find and it was quickly getting dark. We kept on with the hunt. As we were headed east back towards camp on the search for the remaining GPS coordinates, the rain was keeping up with us. We would arrive to a coordinates, find it, and have get hit with a couple drops of rain as we would be getting back into our rigs.
Our last coordinates that we were looking for was off of University Firepower. At one point there were at least 3 teams there looking for the hole punch all at the same time. 11:45pm, frustrated, tired, and knowing that the weather was about to turn we headed back to camp with that being the only punch that we did not find.
