Hi boys and girls. Its time to go wheelin'. On Saturday, July 30th we are going to conquer "Quack Attack" in the Hoodoo OHV area. This area is about 25 miles West of Sisters, Or. Off Hwy 20. I'll need to differ the directions to my co-leader Paul to fill in the blanks on the directions. Anyway... I'll be leaving on Friday afternoon about 2ish and coming home Sunday afternoon. According to the map, there seems to be campgrounds close by. I will be camping somewhere up there. Not sure where yet. I might even go fishing. As far as the trails go. I understand that there is a little for everyone. Quack Attack however is nasty. I would imagine you will need 35" tires, lockers front and rear, and a winch. Also, expect body damage. I would like to hit the trail on Saturday at 9:00am sharp. So we can make it through and stay ahead of all the other groups. Please post up any questions, comments or information you have. Please post up if your going also. So we can be watching for you.
I hope to see you there, Douglas

Here is a nice write up I found with some info and the required items for the weekend. Quack attack Trail is located in Central Oregon about 30 minutes from Sisters Oregon. This trail is a very difficult trail that body damage is likely. I absolutely love running this and highly recommend it if you are looking for a challenge. I wouldn't recommed running this alone and make sure you have spare parts. There is Verizon service the entire trail if calls are needed. A spill kit, shovel, fire ext, and an Oregon OHV permit are required. The trail head is at the base of Hoodoo Ski area and is right off of highway 20. The trail is open from May 1 to Oct 31 and becomes a snow park after that. There is a nice lake nearby and camping available. The closest gas and food are in located Sisters about 30 mins away. There are several different trails within the system so make sure you get or print off a map before you get there. It can be dry and very dusty in the summer months. The elevation is around 5000' so the nights can get cool.l You could even see snow on the trail in May and June. Let me know if you ever want to make a run! This trail get an A+ in my book Permit link www.oregon.gov/oprd/ATV/Pages/Permits.aspxOregon OHV link www.rideatvoregon.org/wheretoride/view/dsp_location.cfm?siteid=23Site Description 53 miles of Easiest to most Difficult trails and shared use roads in the High Cascades open to OHV Classes I, II, III and IV ATVs. The area has plenty of challenging routes as well as meandering trails and roads to entertain everyone. Recently installed rock crawling trails are popular venues to test machines and skills. Learner’s Loops at Ray Benson OHV Staging/Sno Park and Santiam Staging provide riders opportunity to build their skills. The Santiam Staging area provides comfortable, shaded sites, a restroom facility and loading ramp. The trails are well signed and maps are available at trail heads. Free camping is available at Ray Benson OHV Staging/Sno Park and at several dispersed sites along the Historic Santiam Wagon Road. Fee camping with trail and lake access is also available. Information is available from local USFS office or at Hoodoo Ski Bowl. Trail Difficulty Easiest, More Difficult, Most Difficult Season of Use Riding conditions are best in Spring and Fall. Trails get extremely dusty in Summer and may be closed seasonally or due to fire restrictions. Area gets snowed out in Winter months. All wheeled vehicles are not allowed on snowmobile routes after November 16th. Contact land manager for trail status. What are your plans for camping? Big Lake Campground is totally booked for that weekend. Can we camp anywhere? I know a lot of areas you must camp in designated camp grounds. I was really looking forward to this run but its too far for a day trip.

I was really looking forward to this run but its too far for a day trip. There are a lot of camping options in the area. Almost unlimited amounts of camping space in the snow park right where the Quack Attack trail head is. I have always camped just to the south on the wagon road. There are several party size camping areas west of the main road on the wagon road. I have not stayed at the Big Lake Campground, but I have driven through it on the way to the lake access. The campsites do not lend themselves well to campers or trailers anyways.

I was really looking forward to this run but its too far for a day trip. I don't really have any plan. I'm tent camping where ever I can find a place to lay my head. If you would like to follow me up on Friday afternoon we can camp together. I'm not sure how else to let people know where I'm at. I know this though... I won't be camping by the trail head. I will find a space that is secluded and quiet.

If you could get a message out to someone (possibly me) im sure that we could get your location posted up onto the forum so we would have a chance of finding you.

I'm leaving Battleground around 6:00pm Friday to minimize the traffic through Portland. I plan on sleeping as close to Quack Attack as possible

You guys should try and let me know where your camping at. I'm planning on heading up Saturday morning unless I get off work much earlier then planned on Friday. If I don't hear from you on Friday night let meet up at the main staging area off of Big Lake rd on Saturday morning around 9:30am. GPS coordinates for it are N 44* 23'25.6 W 122* 51'39.4
See you guys on Saturday.

Due to more than a few reasons - we are out for this weekend. Sorry Douglas 1) Family medical emergency 2) FSI just got buried in work that we have to get done before the August work party 3) Einstein still has front driveline issues 4) Bruiser still needs bushings We're going to stay home and probably go up and work on the trails this weekend - Darel could use some one-on-one time on Old Ugly & the Oxbow with the excavator to get ready for the next work party. Have fun and please take lots of pictures - someday we hope to make it out to Hoodoo... Happy Trails! Crystal PS: Make sure the cow bell goes up with you - y'all are going to need it.

Haha..more cowbell please...
Crystal, sorry you guys got too busy, I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
Just FYI on camping my first stop for camping will be the Ray Benson campground/staging area. That is also 50 feet from the beginning of quack attack so I say we meet there in the morning as a rally point before hitting the trail.
If we are unsuccessful finding enough room there we will look elsewhere and try to post here or get a message out to Daryl who will post our location here.
