"Hello OHV Enthusiasts and Supporters,
It’s that time of year again! The Mt. Hood National Forest has begun the process of submitting a two-year ATV Operations and Maintenance Grant for the forest’s motorized trails program. This grant will be in effect from July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2019
so it is a very important grant to maintain continuity in our program.
The Forest is required to submit Letters of Support as part of the ATV Operations and Maintenance grant application.
We need letters from users, agencies, clubs and businesses who support our program – especially users. You’ve been
included on this email because you’ve provided a letter of support in the past, or may have a network who would be
interested in supporting us and writing a letter of support. If you decide you can do it, please list things that will be
accomplished with grant and how it might affect the local trail system and recreation community. Make sure you return
the letter to the Hood River Ranger district by no later than November 11, 2016.
Funding:
Project funding is provided through the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department ATV Grant Program and is for
motorized trail work only.
Grant Proposal:
The majority of work for this grant request will cover three riding areas: Rock Creek, McCubbins Gulch, and
LaDee Flat OHV areas. Funding would go towards:
1) OHV Staff; fund trail work by OHV specialists to maintain motorized trails and facilities.
2) Trail Work; Remove trail blockages, brush trails, armor trail tread, allow for effective water drainage,
remove trash, maintain existing signage and install new signs where needed, and conduct volunteer work
parties for trail maintenance and construction needs.
3) Staging/Parking Areas; Clean, maintain, and repair staging areas and associated facilities. (Using other grant
funds a new staging area will be developed at LaDee Flat next summer. These operations and maintenance
funds would assist with the maintenance of the staging area).
4) Patrol Trails; to assess maintenance and repair needs.
5) Equipment Operation, Maintenance, Repair, and Rental; Funds for diesel, gasoline, fluids, and maintenance and
repair, and rental of equipment as needed.
