For those of you who have yet to meet us - please come to a meeting and get acquainted.
We are a very active club that works hard and plays hard in all forms of off-road motorsports.
We are always looking for new members and we invite you join us for a meeting or on the trails.
Our primary project of interest is the Yacolt Burn State Forest 4x4 Trail System. Piston’s Wild volunteers worked on building the first three sections throughout 2014 and 2015 and these trails (currently under seasonal closure December 1st – April 30th) are now open to the public. In 2016, Piston’s Wild began work on the newest trail, Old Ugly, and we plan to have it open to the public in May 2018. Three more 4x4 trails under cosntruciton in 2017 by DNR staff will be finalized in the Spring of 2018 and will be opening to the public as soon as completed (about 85% complete right now).
NEW 4x4 TRAIL opening in early May! C14 the newest 4x4 trail aka “Old Ugly” is approximately a 2-mile trail with just under 1,000 foot elevation drop from top to bottom. This “out and back” trail features two large play areas, an unimproved extreme uphill/downhill section, dozens of switchbacks, and views for days. While natural rock formations are rare in this section of the forest, there is one “notch” play area with an opportunity to test your flex. Remember that this trail will have no outlet until late 2019, so what goes down, must come back up to exit the trail – keep that in mind as gravity lures you to the bottom of the system…
With the recently awarded motorized RCO grant for $590,000, you can be assured that even more trails are in the works for the 2018-2019 biennium. This grant will cover the construction of 3 complex bridges in a rugged, remote section of the forest and will provide the last grouping of connector trails that will finalize a complete loop system of 4x4 trails in the Yacolt Burn.
The majority of the trail work parties are open to everyone to participate and get involved. Volunteers are critical to the successful completion of and opening of any new 4x4 trails in the Yacolt Burn. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing everyone in the forest this year…
If you are a member of another club please know that we do encourage visitors – we believe that sharing knowledge will help unite the off-road community and allow for improvement and growth of 4x4 opportunities in our area for everyone to enjoy.
Happy Trails!
