So I have been working on my XJ for a good month and its been coming along nicely. I started from a stock 98 jeep Cherokee and went from there. I traded my street bike (that has been my baby for 3 years) for another Cherokee that the body was hammered on (rust mostly) to steel the parts off of it. I got all kinds of stuff. Two motors one a 92 4.0ltr and one a 97 4.0ltr they also had a automatic attached to one of them and a 5spd manual, and transfer case to the other. I got two sets of tires one of the were a almost new set of BFG KM mud terrains, and a almost destroyed set of swab specials both on wheels. In the pile was a winch bumper for the Nissan, and a gas tank skid (that doesn’t fit ) but all in all a good trade. Oh it also had a newer Rubicon Express 6.5in lift. So I put the Lift, BFG Tires and wheels, the transfer case with sye kit all on before the madden voyage to browns camp with the club a couple weeks ago. So know I'm working on my winch bumper that I bought from Iron Scorpion that is a DIY kit. This worked out really good because the bumper is only $200 then I bought some long mounts ($55) that extend back further on the frame (big problem spot on the Cherokees) and a Steering box brace that is also included. I think my total bill was just a little over $300 including freight. It comes in all laser cut flat plate that you bend and wend together your self. It has to be one of the better-looking steal bumpers out there. I'm just about done it's all tacked together on the front of the Cherokee and I might be able to final weld it tomorrow. Then there will be allot of grinding to make it smooth, and then it will be off to powder coat. It looks really good I will try to get some photos up tomorrow when it's light outside. Well I hope to see ya on the trail so I can try out my new bumper when I’m pulling someone else out of a detained position. LOL ;D

The XJ looked good at TSF. Post some pics of the bumper when it's all done. I was seriously considering that kit as well, it looks like it has pretty low profile.

Sorry guy's for not posting pics. I have been posting off my wifes phone for a couple months. I can seem to figure out how to post pics from it to the forum so I need to wait until we get a new computer. Hopfully this month. As soon as that happens I will be posting more and keeping up with the treads i've started. Thanks for understanding.

IMO I like the Rockhard rear bumper the best. It has a place for your highlift and it also offers Rear lower quarter panel protection as well.

And my new gas tank skid for out back. This has Airplane written all over it. and my new locker that is on back order but it will arrive soon enough. I have enough things to keep my busy. www.aussielocker.com/index.php/aussie-locker-xd-58229-2.html Well I will have all this stuff on soon and it will be a new cherokee this year. I hope it takes me more places. ;D

We guy's it’s that time of year again. Yes that's correct tax time. I have been saving for a while and now with getting my tax return I should be able to make some axle changes. I have been looking into just putting ARB's, Gears, and shafts into my Dana 30 and 29spl 8.25. Looking at it I will be into my current axles for just over $3100.00.
I have an option of buying a set of axles but they are 5x5.5 and my Trailreadys are 5x4.5 so they won’t fit, not only because of the bolt pattern but the hub is too large to fit through my wheel. I was looking at this because I could pick both his axles up for $3000.00 or so and have a Dana 44hp up front.
I have also looked into getting a set of G2 axles or Dynatrac axles. Dynatrac's are out of my price range although I would really like a set of Pro Rock 44's. The G2 axles are okay to say the least. They are a low pinion Rubicon Dana 44 and are not the strongest Dana 44 on the market due to axle tubes and other misc reasons. Some people say they are just as strong as a Dana 30 with a little work. I could order these with some axle brackets and a truss then it would be okay.
The last but not least I could have an axle built but I would most likely only be able to do one or the other. I'm fine with keeping my 8.25 with chromo shafts but I wouldn't be able to do that if I built a front axle. So post up tell me what you would do. I'm currently running 33x12.50 but I am buying 35x12.50 next month. I will be putting a doubler or 4sp atlas in the xj in the next year or so. I wheel my junk hard but I am more of a finesse wheeler then a hammer down until I make it wheeler. I'm interested in your opinions.

I think the real question is if you want to keep your Trailreadys or not. If you want to keep the Trailreadys just build your axles. With your light right foot a well built D30 and 8.25 should hold up just fine.
If you sell your Trailreadys then buy the built axles that your looking at. A cheap set of steel wheels and you'll be on the trail in no time at all!

Thanks for your input I'm still undecided. He's willing to trade for my trailreadys so if he will give me a far trade price then I will just buy a new set of beadlocks. If not I might sell them and still buy new ones. We will see I will chat with him more.

You got my side yesterday.....but for the rest of the folks her is my opinion on it. Take the fact that in the end your only going to have an upgraded Front IE dana 44. The back will still have the non selectable locker which you don't want in the same axle you currently have. Your still left with a "used" set of axles under your Jeep. Your out your beadlocks which you paid good money for. The bolt pattern on the new axles is also different then what 80% of us run so looking at that if your in a pickle or one of your fellow wheelers is in a pickle the spares wont swap. You essentially loose money on those beadlocks too since you cant trade or sell them for the price you paid.
Now the idea of keeping your current stuff and upgrading it. The most valuable thing involved with this setup is Knowledge! You will know how to install a set of gears, axles, and lockers into yours. Any breakage in the future will be an easier fix since you know how to do it and to me that knowledge is priceless. As for the rest of the parts you will have "new" parts and a fresh set of axles. Receipts and Warranties on these parts are in your name, and you will know from day one how the parts have been treated. Being new you can select the parts you want for the build. I'm sure you would pass on the OX and go with ARB if you had the choice in both ends. You keep the same bolt pattern for a spare, and keep your set of Beadlocks and spare wheel.
Bottom line is you must decide, but those are my thoughts on it and I hope they help you in your decision.
