Hey everyone this is Brandon Wilhelm and I finally got smart and made user name. If you looked in the AMC/Jeep Thread you probably have seen my post about my XJ and how I am getting really bad gas mileage in it. So my plan is to re-gear my front and rear diffs to a 4.10 ratio. My front axle is a Dana 30 and my rear is a Dana 35 if any body knows where I could get some cheap just let me know. As of right now Im looking in junk yards and craigslist. Thanks

I've got a set off of my HP D30 I just pulled out. They look great, and I didn't have any issue when running them. Let me know.

Hey Brandon. Instead of wasting money on the Dana 35, why don't you drop in an Explorer 8.8? They are REALLY cheap, and can be had w/the 4.10 gears. All you really need are spring perches (Summit Racing has Mopar perches for $12), and shock tabs (you can reuse the Ford tabs). I'm kind of anti-35 now because mine came apart, and I'm REALLY easy on my rig. Feel free to call me Chris 5037819540

I would actually like to have those 4.10 gears for the d30 hp if you still have them. Thats a good idea for the ford 8.8 rear end but im just gonna try and find some 4.10s for my dana 35 i have now and run that untill it gives out on me then spend the the money to get another axle and all that good stuff.

FYI Brandon, there's an 84 4cyl XJ at the Vancouver Pick-n-Pull. The tags were missing from the diffs, but a 4cyl with a manual trans should have 4.10's in the diffs (30/35 combo).
I'm sure a few of us close to the area could help you pull them if needed.
Also, some of the Ford 8.8's came with 4.10 ratios. Rather than spending the money re gearing a 35 or buying one, put that cash towards setting up an 8.8. Just something else to think about.

my 2 cents here. unless things have changed at pick and pull, you have to buy the whole axle and not just the ring and pinion. so if you have to buy the entire axle then the 8.8 would be your choice. and ditto on helping out if needed.

You can get just the gears at Pick & Pull, this weekend (Fri-Mon) is half off. If the rear end hasn't been changed, you can print out production numbers from this site and find the gears you need. ID numbers are usually stamped on the passenger side back of the axle housing, just need to wipe them off to see the number. www2.dana.com/expertforms/deabill.aspx
