Hello everyone,
Following is the information about the upcoming DNR Meeting to introduce the Western Yacolt Burn Forest Recreation Plan to the general public. At this meeting, DNR will make a presentation to those attending about the Recreation Plan and will answer questions directly related to the plan.
NOTE: The deadline for submitting official comments ended YESTERDAY, June 1, 2010 @ 5:00pm.
IF you are interested in attending this meeting and are capable of sharing ACCURATE information and COURTEOUSLY interacting with the public about the work we have been doing for the past three years in the Yacolt Burn - PLEASE JOIN US AND WEAR YOUR MOTORIZED AFFILIATION apparel. Your support will be greatly appreciated!
If you are incapable of remaining calm and collected in the face of potential conflict with other user groups or have not invested the time and energy to educate yourself about the Yacolt Burn Recreation Plan - PLEASE STAY HOME!
This meeting is not about discussing the width or design of the proposed motorized trail systems - those are all decisions that will be finalized between DNR and the representing motorized clubs at a later date.
Our goal is to hopefully breeze through this meeting with minimal questions or comments being raised. But it is also important that we attend this meeting "in force" to re-iterate the off-road community's interest to DNR and the other user groups the NEED to have sustainable motorized recreation in the Yacolt Burn
Thank you in advance for your serious consideration of this invitation. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns...

Recreation planning on DNR-managed lands
DNR-managed lands provide 1,100 miles of trails, 143 recreation sites, and a variety of landscapes throughout Washington State. Most of these recreation areas are located on state trust lands which provide revenue for public institutions such as K-12 schools.
DNR’s primary responsibility is to manage these trust lands for future generations. In addition, as a steward of public lands, DNR also works to protect the natural resources that support the trust. DNR must balance these obligations with providing enjoyable, safe, and sustainable recreation opportunities.
One of the tools DNR uses to better manage recreation is to develop comprehensive recreation plans. The Western Yacolt Burn Recreation Plan is the most recent planning effort.
Recreational opportunities on DNR-managed lands include hiking, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping, motorized vehicle riding, mountain biking, and boating. DNR’s main recreation focus is to provide trails, trailhead facilities, and a primitive experience in a natural setting.
