So basically I didn't get any work done Thursday and Friday. I was addicted to the KOH coverage National Drive Train and Pirate had of the King of the Hammers 2009 race. I had thought of going, and after watching the bits I could on line, I'll be picking up the DVD and will be planing on making the trip next year!
If you don't know, the KOH is a combination of rock crawling, rock racing and desert racing. Here is a trailer of the 2008 race.
Vid of the Last Chance Qualifiers race on Thursday.
Out of the 90+ competitors that attempted, only 34 actually finished the race!
Some video of the actual race. One guy snapped something in the middle of the course here and got stuck doing repairs. You'll see the eventual winner drive right over the broken rig!
Theres more vid on Youtube, but I wanted to share these. Listening to the radio yesterday it seemed to be a very close race with # 1 and # 2 trading paint and places most of the day. Can't wait for the DVD to be released...

That is the coolest - now I'm wantin' a rock buggy more than ever. Thanks Jon, for posting that up for everyone to enjoy. Love, love, love the second place guy driving over the top of the broke down first place guy to take the lead - if you're not winning, you'll be traction... bwahahahaha We knew when we met you that you would fit right into Piston's Wild - a true motorhead... Jeff Melo (starting position #1) is one of Darel's old racin' buddies - they use to stadium race together "back in the day". I can't find the "final results" to see how Jeff placed... Here is the link to Pirate 4x4's coverage: www.pirate4x4.com/koh09/Kudos to Pirate 4x4 for bringing that event to the masses - I'd heard of "King of the Hammers" before, but had only seen pics in magazines - not live streaming video. I especially like that they had Jessie Combs from Extreme 4x4 commentating and not some trumped up bimbo being fed lines that she doesn't even understand... Way cool.

Heres some more drive over action from KOH.
Shannon Campbell had lost his tranny 5 miles in, got towed back in to the main pits (DQ) replaced his transmission and then went back out and finished the race... Theres some controversy that he might have caused some damage to the guy he drove over. The guy he drove over though did finish...
