For immediate release Local media distribution June 24, 2010 Contact: David Bailey, 503-325-5451 dbailey@odf.state.or.us Nicolai Mountain OHV riding area opens June 25 The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) announced today that the Nicolai Mountain OHV (off-road vehicle) riding area on the Clatsop State Forest will open to the public on Friday, June 25,2010. The area is located in northeast Clatsop County, south of US highway 30. The trail network is currently made up of approximately 15 miles open to motorcycles, quads and side-by-sides. Trail guides are available at: the trailhead kiosk, ODF’s Astoria District office, and on the web at: www.oregon.gov/ODF/FIELD/ASTORIA/aboutastoria.shtml#Recreation. ODF extended appreciation to the organizations and agencies that contributed to the development of the motorized-use trails: Pacific Trail Riders, Dirt Church ATV, South Fork Forest Camp, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and the Yamaha Grant program. ###

This is a very nice area. I did some work on the trails over the last year or so. Also occasionally go up thier and pull trees off the road after storms as it is one of my primary camping locations. If anyone wants to check it out and is pre-emptive to go alone, I may be inclined to show you around.
