Front page of the Neighbors section of the Columbian today: Headline reads: "Local Man Attacked by Lion - Barely Escapes with Life" Local authorities are investigating a Lion attack in the Dole Valley area of the Yacolt Burn. A local man, Bill Hutchens, was attacked by a small lion while working with an off-road enthusiast volunteer group in the Yacolt Burn. Witnesses say that it was very strange to see a lion in this area, as they are not indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. Mr. Hutchens is grateful to be alive and gives thanks to the bystanders who distracted the Lion with a chew toy while he escaped to safety. Volunteer group leader, Darel Crowder of Pistons Wild Motorsports, uses local tree phone to alert animal control that there is a Lion loose in the area and to notify local residents. Dan Friesz, a biologist for the Department of Natural Resources, displays the Willow switch that he used to distract the Lion from terrorizing Mr. Hutchens. See the full story tonight on KATU Channel 2 News at 11:00pm. Photos courtesy of photojournalist Richard Dominiak.

I can't believe we all got out of there alive. I was really scared.
Thank God DNR Dan was so experienced in the woods to know what to do to save us.
I am also glad that Darel learned to use a phone and was able to use a local tree phone to call for more help.
Next time we go out there we should bring more small children to use for decoys to lure the lions to other spots.
I am still shakey from this experience. I think I need a hug.

I think I was a little more afraid of the lions friend, the wolf. Thanks to all of you that helped to save my life.

Kudos to Rick Dominiak, designated photographer for the day, for getting those phenomenal pictures of the "Lion" - those angles were perfect...
I still have people accusing me of photoshopping the pics to make the lion look real.
Priceless!
I was already giggling when I found the first photo of the "lion" nipping at Bill's heels - but when I found the picure of the "lion" being distracted by the stick - I lost it -- and was ROFLMAO.
Rick - keep feeding me these kind of pics and you will be Piston's Wild resident photographer...

You know that picture worked out perfect, I know Macy and she thinks she is human. No way in this World would she be caring a stick. That's a one in a million shot.

Those pics are too funny. It's weird, but I have seen that same lion. It's taken out a few possums in my backyard....
