Just an update on the trail scouting project.
Darel spent all day yesterday (Friday) in the woods with Brian Poehein (DNR Regional Manager) and they successfully identified the location of the water crossing for the first section of trails. That will be approximately a 40 foot bridge with one large culvert.
The scouting scheduled for today and tomorrow has been cancelled as per request of the Fire Boss that is running the Hilltop fire crews. Althought he reluctantly allowed Darel and Brian into the area yesterday for scouting, he has asked that we withdraw any activity in the area until after Sunday night. The crews should be completly out of the area by Monday morning.
Thank you to all of you who offered your time to scout with Darel this weekend - your generous offer of your time for this project is greatly appreciated.
We will resume scouting activities next weekend as scheduled. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

That's FANTASTIC! Hopefully there's a mild enough grade to cut a road into the bridge without having to pack ALL the dirt back out! GIANT news either way! Man that's AWESOME that they're letting us use a culvert! ;D

Are there anymore scouting trips planned soon? Yes. Sunday - September 5th and Monday September 6th confirmed. And maybe (maybe)... Saturday afternoon, September 4th. Stay tuned for more details - let me know if you are available either of those days and I will set up a schedule with Darel. Crystal

A Thank you to Darel from Dave.
Torx, Myself and Darel went up to scout a section of trail on Monday 9/6/10.
Had an awsome time up there again ( my second scout trip )
Reason for the thank you,, is,,, Darel has really put a lot of time and miles ( on his body ) scouting these trails. He is very good at this trail planning and we have the perfect person in charge. His knowledge will yield a great experience for the trail users who get to use this trail system.
Our day this monday was perfect. sunny and 70ish. could not have been better. We did find some very challenging areas to try to put a trail through and we will see how much of it we will actually be able to connect. Very steep areas in the section we were scouting.. ended up in what we determinded to be a too steep dead end for the day. Ended up just heading down hill ( no trail ) to the creek and intercepted a closed trail to walk back to our rigs.. a rewarding day however. and a tough one. I am still tired.. and it Wednesday night now.
If you are of decent physical shape and love to crawl over under and around logs and trees and stream,,, volunteer to help scout. It is a worthwhile experience.
Thanks for letting me be a part of this process. Dave.

Well said, Dave.
Monday was another fun, but brutal (vertical terrain, bee stings, etc) day of scouting. We didn't reach our goal, but we did explore a lot of area, and found what we needed.
Darel's definitely got the eye for feasible terrain to build a trail on. It's pretty cool to be able to walk through the forest and old growth, and imagine in a few years time there's going to be a matured 4x4 trail running through there. I'm looking forward to the next chance to get back out there.

More scouting is scheduled for this coming weekend - both days.
Darel is looking for volunteers to assist him on both Saturday and Sunday, September 11th & 12th.
Please RSVP as soon as possible as DNR does not allow volunteers in the forest working alone. We need at least one additional volunteer for each day - more is better...
Wear your hiking boots, and be sure to fill your backpack with water and food for the day.
Please call Crystal at (360) 606-1648 for meeting place and time.
Thank you in advance for your support as we work to get these trails locked down.

Darel is planning on trail scouting again this coming Sunday - September 19th, 2010.
Please post up or call me if you can lend a hand.
I know that Dave has already volunteered, but ideally, we could use two more volunteers on that day and we might be able to finish the 4x4 trails for the first section.
Thanks in advance...
