E-mail received from Mark Mauren of DNR early this morning. This e-mail contained detailed information about the Recreation & Conservation Reform we discussed at the meeting last night, ie... user pass info and law enforcement consolidation on State managed lands. * * * * * Hi, folks: The 2011 Legislative session started this week. DNR has several legislative proposals for their consideration, including one that our Recreation Program is working on with other state agencies for recreation and conservation reform. You can download a fact sheet with the most up-to-date information about this legislative proposal here: www.dnr.wa.gov/Publications/em_wdfw_dnr_rec_reform_fs2011.pdfKeep in mind, though, that this proposal is likely to undergo more changes as the session progresses. Nothing is cast in stone. We will be sure to keep you updated along the way. >> Learn about other DNR legislative priorities for 2011 here: www.dnr.wa.gov/RecreationEducation/LegislativeInformation/Pages/Home.aspx

Also-
Increase the cost of personalized license plates by $10 to help generate an estimated $1.3 million in additional revenue each biennium. This revenue will be dedicated to watchable wildlife opportunities and conservation work for threatened and endangered and non-hunted species on WDFW lands.

Red, bold lettering for an aspect of the legislation that has nothing to do with off-road use? Yes, the $10 increase in personalized license plates will go directly to endangered and non-hunted species conservation. If you don't support that piece of the legislation, it's simple -- don't get a personalized license plate... The reason I post this information on this forum with links to original documentation is because I strongly encourage everyone to read the fact sheet for themselves. Don't be swayed by my personal opinion or anyone else's for that matter - read the material and make up your own mind... What I meant to say last night (and it has been brought to my attention that I mis-spoke) is that the PNW4WDA was actively involved with DNR in the creation of this legislation and the "majority" of active PNW4WDA land coordinators support the idea of user fees and personal access passes. I was surfing the interwebs the other day and found this link as well from the Washington Trails Association and what they think of this new pass www.wta.org/action/action-alerts/DNR%20petition%20/viewHere is another page from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife with more info on what new legislature they want to pass. wdfw.wa.gov/lands/landline/If you have comments or concerns they can be relayed to DNR via explore@dnr.wa.gov but like any other legislation its best to educate yourself with all the information. Also not included in that pass would be the $5 dollar per car fee if I read that right. A little info on the Personalised plates. Those numbers between 50 and 40 dollars are not including the standard registration fees of around 30+ dollars, so you will have to pay around 80 bucks to license your vehicle for one year which is outrageous and is the reason why I stopped doing it with my classic vehicles. Also pay note to that gas tax increase that is talked about in the WDFW link. Just a little bit of info, but again do your research don't take my word for it

Thanks for the reply above Joey - it's always good to take a look from other user groups' point of view...
