Mike Stacy (a Piston's Wild applicant) has asked me to post this on the forum. He is asking for our support to bring some great motorsports events to PIR. Your support will help to bring major events to the Portland area that both Mike Stacy, Winton & Maureen Johdahl and others will likely be competing.
Please take a few minutes to support your fellow motorheads...
Thanks in advance,
Crystal
PIR ALERT
We are asking you to take a few minutes and send an email to support PIR.
PIR operates under special sound restrictions. It is allowed four sound variances each year, which are used for the major spectator events. The variances are not automatic, and they must be approved by the Portland Noise Review Board.
On March 9, the Noise Board will consider PIR's request for four three-year variances for the following events:
112 db: Portland Historics, weekend of July 8-10 (2011)
110 db: NASCAR K&N Filter Salute to the Troops 125, weekend of July 22-24 (2011)
115 db: NHRA National Open, weekend of August 26-28 (2011)
112 db: Columbia River Classic/All British Field Meet, weekend of Sept 3-5 (2011)
It is expected that there will be considerable opposition to the variance requests. It is important for the Noise Board to appreciate how important these events are to the local track community.
Would you take a few minutes to send an email in support? Send it to the City's Noise Control Officer at
paul.vanorden@portlandoregon.gov
The most effective messages will be courteous and will avoid making confrontational or disparaging comments about the opposition. The most important things are to explain how enjoyable and important these events are to you and your friends and family, and how important they are to the operations of the track.
It doesn't have to be long. Just a short email expressing support for the variances would be helpful.
But what it does have to be is quick. The meeting is the evening of March 9, so your emails should be there no later than noon on the 9th.
If you are interested in appearing in person, the details are: Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 6 p.m., Room 2500 B at 1900 SW 4th Ave., Portland, Oregon.
