Thank you to everyone who attended the dedication ceremony of a new bridge for motorized recreation in Capitol State Forest last Saturday, April 30. The new bridge connects the Straddleline ORV Park to the forest managed by DNR.
The dedication started off in the morning with 30 volunteers who helped complete the trail approaches to the bridge and did some hardening of the trail. Their efforts and the new bridge will help protect the salmon-bearing stream from sediment disturbance.
The new steel I-beam bridge was funded in part by a Yamaha OHV Access Initiative GRANT™, awarded to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources last year.
Following the volunteer work, the fun and festivities began with a ribbon cutting ceremony headed up by local Yamaha dealer, John Gylys from Motorsports of Olympia, and Warren Fossum, Yamaha Northwest region district manager.
Also participating in the event were area off-road clubs and groups including Tacoma Trail Cruisers, Washington ATV Association, Cascade Family Motorcycle Club, and Dual Sport Riding Club. Promotoproductions assisted with logistics and provided refreshments for the dedication ceremony.
The intent of the Yamaha Initiative is to promote safe, responsible riding and open, sustainable riding areas. Learn more from Yamaha’s Responsible Rider Checklist.
