E-mail received today from Mike Law with Oregon Parks & Recreation. Previously, Side X sides were temporarily lumped in with Class II OHV's (Jeeps & Trucks). Now, they have their own class, their own requirements and in some places, even their own trails. Cool!

Hi everyone, hope things are going well in your OHV areas.
House Bill 2329 was recently passed and took effect January 1, 2012. Among other things, the new law added a new class of ATV to the mix. Class IV ATVs are the side x sides, and they have their own unique operator and equipment requirements. The Class I ATV weight limit was also increased from 800lbs to 1,200 lbs.
Below are links to several OPRD ATV websites with information about the revised classifications and the current operator and operating requirements. Keep this in mind when educating the public through public contacts, print materials (maps, kiosks, etc) and the web. This information is also included in the OPRD 2012 Oregon OHV Guide (which will be distributed very soon).

Last but not least, for those looking for stickers or signs to designate Class IV trails, one option is Rockart: www.rockartsigns.com/
