Hello everyone,
I just wanted to send out an email to reiterate the information I gave you at last week’s TAG meeting regarding forest operations that impact recreation. Please make sure you disseminate this information so that people are aware of these management activities. This is for visitor safety, as well as the safety of our contractors and employees.
There’s an herbicidal application contract currently in effect. It’s active from Aug. 6-Sept. 15. As the application is mostly done by helicopter, this is very weather dependent and we cannot give advance notice. The contract allows for weekend and holiday work, unlike our timber sale contracts. We plan to post the affected areas with signage, so please advise your friends that if they see such signage, to please adhere to the warnings for their safety.
The following trails/areas will be impacted:
· Bradley ORV Trail (Elochoman Valley Units)
· Bells Mountain (Berry Nice Unit 1, Hot Rod Unit 1)
· Tarbell- Cold Creek section (Loafer Unit 2)
· Thrillium Mountain Bike Trail (Thrillium Unit 2)
· “Appaloosa” undesignated trail (Loafer Units 1 and 3)
· “Flats Area” undesignated trails (Sea of Gold- all Units)
· Pacific Crest Trail (Sasquatch) *** ground spray application only
There are several bridge/culvert replacement and installation projects occurring at this time that impact access. These should be completed by Sept. 30, when the window for in stream work ends.
· Bridge replacement occurring on the 10 road in the Siouxon- impacts access to the S-6000.
· Timber Creek bridge replacement on the W-2000 to start Aug. 7. This impacts access to the top of 3 Corner Rock Trail.
· Bridge installation occurring on the 1200 road, just past Dougan Creek Campground. This will impact access to Silver Star and the Larch block from that side.
Summer use reminders:
· Don’t block gates. This is very important for emergency access. Parking is not technically permitted, and if a vehicle is blocking a gate that needs to be accessed, the vehicle will be towed at the owners expense.
· All forest roads have a speed limit of 25 mph. With increased traffic, and the roads being gravel, please note that this is for your safety.
· The entire L-1000 road (north and south) is a no shooting corridor.
· If you park in an undesignated location, please ensure your vehicle is pulled completely off the road.
Thanks everyone. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Jessica Kimmick
