Following is an e-mail I received from Jessica Kimmick yesterday - be advised...

Hello,
Hope this email finds you well. I wanted to connect with you about the information I received yesterday regarding this summer’s herbicide application contract. As most of you know, these contracts are often a couple months long, and since application is very much weather dependent, applications can happen at any time during the contract. Due to weather dependency, we receive incredibly short notice when operations become active. This is why specific times and dates cannot be provided in advance.
One change you should make note of: we used to put up yellow signs with a stop sign on them with chemical information listed as well as white “no entry” signs in the areas of the application. We have done away with the white “no entry” signs, so all the information will be provided on the yellow stop sign signs (including time/date of application in that area).
Contract info:
· The contract hasn’t gone up for sale yet, but the goal is to sell it July 1, with a July 10th start date.
· The Yacolt district (Larch Block) would be first to be completed. This contract covers other DNR managed landscapes as well, but I only list below the impacts to recreation sites under my management.
· It is a 7 day a week contract, so weekends and holidays are not off limits for active spraying.
The following units interfacing with designated recreation are to be sprayed:
· Sloppy Joe U2: Bells Mountain Trail (approx. mile 3.5 from Moulton Falls Park): aerial spray
· Hot Rod all units: Bells Mountain Trail (approx. mile 2.5 from Cold Creek): ground spray will take place where trail goes through unit
· Little Biggun all units: Bells Mountain Trail (trail just downhill from units- trail not actually through the cut- just outside Cold Creek): aerial spray
· Iron Chef U2 & U3: Tarbell(approx. mile 3-4 near Kloochman Butte): spot treatment for vine maple
· Rock Out U1 & U2: Tarbell (between Rock Creek and Cold Creek) and next to Rock Creek Campground: ground spray
As always, the Silviculture unit does a great job keeping us informed of operations around recreation trails/facilities. During active spraying, there will be lookouts on the trails to ensure the public doesn’t enter, and as always, keep an eye out for the yellow signs. These precautions are taken for your safety.
Please let me know if you have questions or would like additional information.
Sincerely,
Jessica Kimmick
