Wow! what an awesome day in the woods. I heard it said "if you didn't like the weather you weren't paying attention" cause we saw it all. Rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain, sun, blue sky, wind. Pretty impressive Hood River my hat will stay on for you.
I have to shout out a huge thank you to Adam Underhill who guided, spotted, picked up trash, helped and taught a quick class on how to re-seat a tire on the trail. With Go Pro in hand and a smile on his face. Cool guy! Thank you I hope to wheel with you again soon.
Also thank you to everyone that came out I think we had 14 rigs with us all day. I am almost positive this was the largest group that has been on this trail at one time. We did not see anyone else all day. We started off about 9:45 or 10:00 and headed around the reservoir and up the hill. Adam decided it would be smart to run the trail from end to beginning as it starts with a huge rock field that can "claim a few victims" so we ended the day with it instead just in case. The trails are really new and we noticed them change as the group passed through. which made some of the portions that the front of the group breezed through much more difficult for the rear vehicles.
We stopped for lunch at an obstacle called "the Ledge" which is what it sounds like a big freaking ledge. Adam had the right wheel base and tire size and made it look easy. "piece of cake" So I gave it a few try's. "not a piece of cake" my desire to run sand flea rally without rebuilding anything on the rig first out weighed my need to overcome "the Ledge" so I took the lesser line and we grilled some dogs.
The rest of the afternoon was more awesome trail tight and twisty lots of small trees and stumps to maneuver around a few rock out cropping's that made life interesting. We came to a nice snowy hill that gave everyone a chance to clear out the exhaust manifolds. Then around the corner to the little boulder field which was just a warm up to the "big boulder Field." Then down the hill and back to the staging area around 7pm
A group of us stopped at Char Burger at exit 62 where we received awesome food and extremely warm service. Try the tri-tip sandwich Holy Crap. oh and the Maple bars.
Thanks again to those that came and to those that didn't you missed out and I hope you enjoy the pictures
