I've decided to build front shock hoops for my trail rig and am curious on any of your opinions. I have plenty of 1" round ews/erw tubing with a .120 wall (1/8") thickness. The hoops will be welded to the frame and gussets will be added for strength. I plan on having the peak of the bend 8" above the top of frame. Oh and only for mounting shocks not coilovers. These should be plenty strong? Do I NEED to use DOM tubing? Any reasons other than easy removal to not weld them on since I am a certified structural welder? Thank for your input

Add a nice 1/8 or 3/16 plate for it to land on maybe 4"x1.5". To spread the load on the weak cj frame and run it. The tube you have will be fine. Another option could be f250 front towers. They are like $25 each at the dealership. Google it. That's what I used. But tube is sexier.
Edit to add. I wish I had plated my frame in front of the motor mount before doing the shackle reversal and towers. Now it just seems like a lot Of work. So you could take the opportunity to plate the outside and top then weld straight to that. After 4 years I am just waiting for the cracks to start. I can watch my frame flex as the steering wheel is turned back and forth.....
