On Saturday we met up at the mountain view trail head and had a our first preseason work party. The trails usually open up on the 1st of May. But this year with the first of May being on a Sunday the Department of Natural Resources was gracious enough to open up the trails a day earlier then usual.
Crystal held the safety meeting and then handed out the days tasks to the group. The tasks included cleaning water bars, replacing damaged and stolen signs, and picking up any litter that was on or near the trails.
We had a nice turnout for the day.
Doug and Rod B. got right to work. For those that didnt get a chance to visit with Rod he is the operations manager at COMEUP WINCH out of Clackamas OR. A few of us had a chance to meet him when we were in Moab.
James Cook, Wade, and I went to the end of the Hagen Creek trail to pick up trash and replace signs. There was plenty of both that needed to be done.
One of our finds
We then moved onto the Deer Pen trail where we did a little brushing and picked up more litter. When we got to the end of the trail there was a closed sign that needed to be removed. It felt really good to take that sign down!!!
James and I then ran the Hagen Creek trail to see if the other crew needed a hand. But they had just finished up and left by the time we made it there. We then educated some shooters and a fellow wheeler about the rules of the trails and where the trails were so they didnt send any lead that way.
Once we got back the the beginning of Mountain View Crystal and Riley made everyone custom ordered sandwiches for lunch! No pictures of the sandwiches, sorry.
Rod and his JKU coming out of Mountain View
Things were winding down and people started going their separate ways so Paul, Darel, Ryan, and myself decided that we should go walk the lower section of C14. Paul was the only one of us that had been down there recently so it was good to go down there and get reacquainted with the area.
