My Grandpa gave me this boat about 8 years ago when his dad passed away. I figured he had a hard time using it since they were the only two that ever did, and it was always together. He knew I liked to fish as well as I would take care of it and not sell it. Short story to why after this long I am finally getting around to using it is that I fear he has few days left with us due to cancer. So I though why not spruce her up a bit so he can rest assured I will take care of it. Its around 12' long and about 4' wide, and around 2' deep. It came with a little Evenrude motor on it, along with Grandpas little gadgets like the fuel tank, grease gun, wheel bearings, extra plugs for the motor, and so on. He's a man that liked to be prepared with whatever happened. I am starting with the removal of all the old plywood, which will be replace by who knows what. I am leaning heavily towards pine since not too many people use it and I love the character of the wood. I have already pulled all the wood, and its now at dads house so I can sandblast the inside to get the old paint off. I will post the progress on it. Here are some photos of before shots.

Well I dont have pictures of the progress yet, but that will be later. I figured I could tell you whats been going on with it. I got the sand blasting done on the inside today, which I started yesterday. I had to go over it again real quick since aluminum oxidizes in about 2 hours. I then cleaned it up and mixed up the "Primewash" etching paint. CRAP that stuff is potent. I finished with a dizzy head even though I was painting outside with a breeze. The stuff even has its own special high strength thinner that goes with it, which melted right through my gloves in about a min of use. I have to go back to get the right thinner for my paint since I am going to spray it instead of brush it. I will post pics as soon as I can. I also got my wood for the seats and stuff. Its going to look sweet when I get done.

Nice job, this is coming along nicely. This is a great thing you are doing here.... My grandpa use to take me fishing during summer vacations when I was a kid in a boat very similiar to this one. I couldn't help but relive a few of those memories when I first saw this post... very cool restore, but then so far, you have had some pretty cool projects ;D

Time for an update! I have been working hard on the wood work. I am using kind of a laminated pin board for the seats and basic structure. Its a bunch of pine boards glued together to form one. You can see in the photos. I am then banding them with black walnut to keep the edges nice and clean, plus to keep the dents and dings to a minimum from use. Its been a pain to fit the wood to the uneven boat. from years of use this thing isn't quite perfect anymore. Its of course still in great shape. Its taken me countless hours to get this far. Here's some photos before I sand things down and put the finish on. This is the rear section made of 4 different sections that I biscuit-ed together to make one. the first section of the front. This was a pain to fit. This is the seat and back section sitting in place Just part of the back section where the motor mounts too. I laminated 2 pieces together to make one then bent black walnut over the top to cap it off and keep the dents down, which isn't shown in the photo. Can you count the clamps, haha This is a picture of my dads custom, hand made cedar strip canoe. You will never see another like it that's for sure. Its taken hundreds of hours to get to this point. This shot just doesn't do it justice.

Beautiful. You going to have it ready for kokanee this spring?
Sorry for the hijack, but the spare on the Cherokee, what kind of tire is that? Looks like an Armstrong TruTrac.

Thanks, I have been working hard to make it look good for a little aluminum pond skipper. That is a TruTrac up there. Figure I would run old school on the spare since I cant find a matching one.

Those were great tires. Wish someone still made them. My first wheeler came with them.
