Meet at Larch Mountain Trailhead
*Directions and map attached
Work Party 9:00am – Noon
BBQ Lunch at Noon
OHV Trail Tours begin at 1:00pm
Piston’s Wild Motorsports and Jones Creek Trail Riders in cooperation with the Pacific Cascade Region of the Department of Natural Resources invite you to join us for the grand opening of almost ten (10) miles of brand new OHV trails in the Yacolt Burn State Forest.
We will begin the day with some cooperative strategy trail maintenance training in the morning while everyone enjoys coffee and donuts provided by Piston’s Wild Motorsports.
Immediately following, volunteer crews will head out to wrap up some minor finish work on the brand new trails (brushing, sign installation, etc).
We invite everyone to meet back at the Larch Mountain Trailhead at Noon for a BBQ lunch provided by Jones Creek Trail Riders & Piston’s Wild Motorsports.
At lunch we will have new trail maps including ALL of the OHV trails that are open to the public as well as some exciting news about the next section of trails that will begin construction this summer…
Beginning at 1:00pm, we will start sending out the trail tours on the new trails in 10-15 minute increments to avoid conflicts with varying speed groups leaving the trailhead in this order:
1st – Dirt bikes
2nd – ATV’s
3rd – UTV’s
4th – 4x4’s
*Please keep the person behind you in sight at all intersections before proceeding…
The trails will open to the general public for free riding after all of the trail tour participants have completed all of the trails and have exited the trail system.
We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Happy Trails!

TRAIL DESCRIPTIONS:
Skyline Trail (aka C8/C9)
ALL MOTO - Open to 4x4’s, UTV’s, ATV’s and Dirt bikes
Approximately 3 miles in length
Constructed by Pacific Cascade Department of Natural Resources (2017/2018)
Skyline Trail launches into an immediate climb from the main 1500 road in the forest. You will experience multiple ups and downs as you span the 700’ elevation climb through the recent clear cut to the top of the trail – 4WD and/or momentum (Braap!) will be your friend on this challenging, mostly uphill trail filled with tight switchbacks as well as some big sweeping turns. Upon reaching the brief section of flat trail at the top, be sure to take a moment to catch your breath and enjoy the view from which will likely be the highest OHV accessible elevation of the forest. Next is a quick bump up into the forested section of the trail and you start into the beginning of a total of 1700’ drop in elevation to the very bottom of the new system. We hope you will enjoy winding through this beautiful forested area with numerous switchbacks and scenic viewpoints and then finally dropping onto the 1520 road.
Trail Name TBD (C10)
ALL MOTO - Open to 4x4’s, UTV’s, ATV’s and Dirt bikes
Approximately 1.5 miles in length
Constructed by Pacific Cascade Department of Natural Resources (2017/2018)
This trail reveals some incredible mountain views sprinkled with challenging rocky downhill maneuvering through tight twists and turns along with some bumps and whoops to keep you on your toes.
Trail Name(s) TBD (C11 parts A & B)
ALL MOTO - Open to 4x4’s, UTV’s, ATV’s and Dirt bikes
Approximately 1.5 miles in length
Constructed by Pacific Cascade Department of Natural Resources (2017/2018)
This trail is the last in the newly constructed system that ends at the launch point of the 2018-2020 trail construction. More tight and twisty rocky trails with some steep climbs along the way. Half way through the second section you will find a fun and challenging log crawl perfectly spaced to provide hours of frustration for each and every wheelbase equally – we don’t discriminate. A bypass is also provided for those who prefer a quick and happy drive-by.
Huckleberry Thrill Trail (aka C13)
Open to ATV’s (52” max width) and Dirt bikes ONLY
Less than 1 mile in length
Constructed by Jones Creek Trail Riders (2016)
Huckleberry Thrill is aptly named, as you will find both on this segment of intermediate trail, with steep drops in portions and a twisty winding path down a heavily forested section of the Yacolt Burn. This trail does not yet meet up with a loop, so it's currently a down-and-back trail.
*Trail tours will be exiting via gravel road and a locked gate for tour day only.
Rock-N-Roll Trail (aka C12)
Open to ATV’s (52” max width) and Dirt bikes ONLY
Constructed by Jones Creek Trail Riders (2017)
Less than 1 mile in length
The Rock-N-Roll Trail is the newest bike/quad trail built just last year, with an easier drop pitch than it's uphill neighbor, and a short segment of road splits it into two sections. A stand of trees amongst the clear-cut will provide you with a nice viewpoint of the valley below before reaching the road at the bottom. This trail does not yet meet up with a loop, so it's currently a down-and-back trail, although a gravel road bypass is available.
*Trail tours will be exiting via a gravel road and locked gate for tour day only.
Old Ugly Trail (aka C14)
ALL MOTO- Open to 4x4’s, UTV’s, ATV’s and Dirt bikes
This trail was opened to the public on May 1st, 2018
Approximately 2 miles in length
Constructed by Piston’s Wild Motorsports (2016/2017)
The Old Ugly Trail is approximately a two mile trail with just under 1,000 foot elevation drop from top to bottom. This “out and back” trail features two large play areas, an unimproved extreme uphill/downhill section (ride at your own risk), dozens of switchbacks, and views for days. Halfway down the trail take a left and you will find an oxbow option with a meandering collection of switchbacks through the trees offering an easier bypass around the steep “ugly” hill climb. You will find this area surrounded by two major water systems so there is always a great opportunity to see an abundance of wildlife on the trail. While natural rock is rare in this section of the forest, there is one “notch” play area in the lower section with an opportunity to test your flex. Be sure to check out the awesome play area at the top of the trail for more man made rock and log feature fun. Remember that this trail will have no outlet until 2020, so what goes down, must come back up to exit the trail – be sure to keep that in mind as gravity and false confidence lures you to the bottom of the system…
*Trail tours will be exiting via a gravel road and locked gate for tour day only.
