This guy broke 3 major rules of off-roading and payed the consequences: #1 Don't drink and go wheeling
#2 Stay on the designated trails
#3 Roll cages aren't just for looksClick here for the full story: www.pnw4wda.org/forums/showthread.php?p=5769#post5769Unbelievable display of stupidity! This makes me think of all of the "rogue" wheelers out there who won't join a club because "clubs have too many rules". This is exactly why clubs have rules -- to keep everyone alive. If this guy had joined a local club and been out wheeling with them this would never have happened. He would NOT have been allowed to drink and drive, he would NOT have been allowed to go off of the designated trail and the first time he showed up at a club event with that vehicle, the members would have looked at the exo-cage and not only told him how useless it was - they would have helped him build it correctly. That's my rant -- I'm done now... Crystal

On the positive side (I'm trying to learn how to balance my critiques with positives these days)... He was well prepared: Shovel Hi-Lift Jack Jack Base Tools Tow Strap Chain Saw Fire Extinguisher Spare Parts Fluids (for vehicle) He was really only lacking one thing... Common Sense!

And you forgot the rifle for shooting himself if he got hurt.

Unbelieveable people never learn. That cage wasnt designed right at all and was probably only buggered together anyway. We see how well that cage crushed and its lucky they didnt get killed. What a ride that would have been.

He was lucky by the looks of that truck. Cages aren't just for those small hits on rocks, its for things like this. I think that cage was built for those rock hits and not for hard hits like continuous rolls. He's lucky there were good people to help. That would have been us helping if we were there. I hope they gave him a good lashing.

And from my dark and cloudy side... Here is the picture that I knew existed, but no one was posting until now. How many beers can you find in the rocks that fell out of the cooler? It's kind of like "Where's Waldo" or maybe Where's Widmere?" And from my bright and shiny side... It's a good thing he crashed when he did - just think how many people he could have killed after drinking all of those beers... Oh wait - my split personalities are starting to blur. Meh

FRY, did you know this guy?
You may not have read that he was drinking and most likely impaired.....ticket potential number 1, and he was off the designated trail.....ticket potential number 2. Most likely not potential on the impaired part.
Also the gun statement I'm sure was sarcastic. For his extremely stupid decision he has hurt people and could have killed them. Sorry if I'm being blunt but read it first before you start getting mad at peoples posts.

Thanks Fivendime,
I was just on the phone with the moderators consulting on how to handle Fry's complaints about those posts - we don't want this forum to turn into a pissing match. There are plenty of forums out there for that - this is not the place. This forum is supposed to be about off-road motorsports and how to make them better.
If my information is correct, I think Fry is on the board of Clark Rifles, Inc., and his point of view is likely skewed towards gun rights - maybe not necessarily off-roading rights.
On his complaint about why a big ticket should be written - I have no clue where he's coming from unless there is a new group out there that I'm not aware of - maybe (RFDD) Riflemen for Drunk Drivers - I missed that memo...
Do we have a problem with guns - NO! Do we have a problem with reckless or irresponsible people shooting guns in the forest - YES!
Settle it down, Fry, or stay away - we don't need your poison here...

Sorry Fry, I also own and love guns. The only problem I have is stupid people that do dumb things and it falls back on the rest of us. Sorry again. Bill

Just a little Devil's advocate here. He could have been on his way to a nice camping spot to sleep under the stars(as i did not see a tent in the wreckage). And wanted a beer or two when he got there? I know probably not, but hey, it could happen.

Why-o-why does everyone keep trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt? Walks like a duck -- must be a chicken, right? Well, at least the investigating LEO saw it the same way I saw it - rumor has it I have been informed by reliable resources that this guy received a bucket full of citations: one for reckless endangerment and one for driving off of the trail. (I'm not certain what else for certain but there might have been one for driving under the influence as well). Continually defending retards like this guy is precisely the kind of thinking that is causing 4-wheel drive trails to be endangered in the Pacific Northwest. The 4-wheel drive community already can't seem to find the forest through the trees - can the view possibly be any better with our heads jammed two feet deep in the sand? If we want to save our trails we ALL need to: Drive SANE, Drive SOBER and Drive where it's LEGAL - it's really not rocket science... Happy Friday!
