Do I need both Oregon and Washington ORV Tags to play in Oregon, or is my Washington ORV tag good? On the FJ I had them both, but thats because I got the Oregon one first. I just got my plates and ORV tags today for here in Washington and am wondering if I need Oregon tags. I googled and came up with the following link which says Oregon does offer Washington "Reciprocity" with the following caveat. "* Anyone riding in Oregon is required to have an off road permit/decal for off road areas. This is a state law. Reciprocity is granted to those individuals who have a valid off road permit/decal. This is the only permit which we accept in our reciprocity agreement with other states. Within Washington's laws, they offer reciprocity to other states under two directions, ORV permit or vehicle license. Only one is similar to our program and that is the ATV Permit/Decal. Dual sport motorcycles with license plates do not qualify under the reciprocity agreement." www.oregon.gov/OPRD/ATV/reciprocity.shtmlI think this says I am good, but figured I'd ask. I also emailed them to see what the official word is...

One or the other is good in OR. I used the WA one on my Banshee when I was riding in the dunes, and it is legal.
Question, if you're not using any of the OHV parks with your rig in WA its not really cost effective to by the WA one since they are like 30 bucks? A day use one for WA is 5 bucks.
So yes, the WA one is good ;D

Hey Jon,
If you are a Washington Resident - your Washington ORV tag (dual registration) is good in Oregon. You must have a Washington drivers license to back that up...
If you are an Oregon Resident - your Oregon ORV tag is good in Washington. You must have an Oregon drivers license to back that up...
If you are wheeling in Washington with only Oregon ORV tags and your are from Washington - you will likely get a ticket.
If you are wheeling in Oregon with only Washington ORV tags and you are from Oregon -- well then, you're just plain silly...

So my question, do you need a Washington ORV tag on a Washington licensed vehicle to wheel in Washington? My understanding was no. Hence my OR ORV sticker.

I have always been under the same understanding as beatcj. In the RCW I can find the section about licensing a nonhighway vehicle as an orv, but I haven't found anything detailing where an orv tag is required. It seems to me that section 6 of the following RCW says that street licensed and registered vehicles are exempt from needing an ORV registration. apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.09.050

They told me that I had to have the Wa ORV pass even though my rig was licensed. I still think your supposed to have one in Wa even if your rig is already licensed for street use.

I don't have any clear answer here, I just know that in the exemptions listing I linked to above it says that if you are licensed for the street you are exempt from needing the ORV .
"RCW 46.09.050 Vehicles exempted from ORV use permits and tags. ORV use permits and ORV tags shall be required under the provisions of this chapter except for the following:"
..."(6) Vehicles which are licensed pursuant to chapter 46.16 RCW or in the case of nonresidents, vehicles which are validly licensed for operation over public highways in the jurisdiction of the owner's residence."
I read the law to say either ORV registration or street registration is required, but either way you have to register your vehicle to operate it in WA state. I believe that exemption 6 is in place to keep from forcing people to register the same vehicle twice. That's just how I read it.
As far as Evans Creek goes, it is a USFS site and they want you to have some form of day use pass(either a one day pass, NW Forest Pass, and/or some other multi-use Park/USFS passes are also valid)

I don't have any problem with buying a Washington permit, it will be good when I go to TSF, too. My Oregon permit expires next year. When I went to Elbe, I tried to figure it out, and to me, it just isn't clear. Also, where do you buy the dang thing? I'll pay my money, and slap the sticker on, I mean, it goes into NOVA, right?

Yep, I believe it goes to Nova I got mine at the licensing office @ 14th and Franklin but believe you can get them at any of the licensing offices. I got a response back confirming that your Washington ORV tag is good in Oregon. " An ATV/OHV operating permit that is issued in another state shall be honored in the State of Oregon if the issuing state also honors an Oregon ATV operating permit. This arrangement is Reciprocity. The ATV must have a resident state ATV/OHV operating permit or a State of Oregon ATV operating permit to operate the ATV on designated Oregon ATV areas. A State of Oregon ATV operating permit may be issued for all terrain vehicles owned by a resident of another state that does not have a permitting program. The State of Oregon does have reciprocity with the State of Washington. So your Washington permit is valid here in Oregon. If you have any other questions please email or call us at 1-877-7SAFELY. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure Crystal is correct here, what it boils down to is WA ORV tags are good in OR and vise versa and your tags need to be from the same state as your license.
WA sucks because its only one year, and more money.
Oregon, NO sales tax, good for 2 years, and no hastle $10 fee This is why so many people buy Oregon ORV tags
