Dear Pistons Wild Club Members: Following is a topic that was started just last Saturday (1/24/09) about a Blue Jeep Cherokee stuck in the mud up in Jones Creek powerlines. This story quickly spread to 3 forums (that I know of): www.pirate4x4.comwww.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=753999www.nw-wheelers.comwww.nw-wheelers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35239www.timbercrawler.comtimbercrawler.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=38935The exciting part about this story is the following: These threads have been viewed a total of 5,760 times in the past 5 days. In addition, there have been well over 250 replies to these topics. The really good news is that the majority (I would estimate about 80%) of the replies are attempts to educate and reprimand this young man about the errors of his ways going 4-wheeling in the Yacolt Burn - in a "known" illegal area, alone, unprepared... This is just one of the small victories that are a direct result of many months of your hard work and persistence as we work towards opening new 4x4 trails in the Yacolt Burn. Your dedication to this project has been phenomenal and I am so proud to belong to this club - keep up the great work...

Update on Recovery Effort of Jeep Cherokee in Yacolt Burn (the following information was posted on the 3 internet forums as listed in the original post of this thread)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you to everyone for participating in this conversation. Everyone's involvement (whether supportive, educational or disciplinary) helps to get the word out about what is appropriate and what is not.
I have spoken with Mike Smith (xj666) as well as the Department of Natural Resources and we are planning a recovery on this coming Sunday (February 1st). We will be meeting at Jones Creek Trailhead at 8:30am Sunday morning. For anyone who misses the 8:30am meeting time at the trailhead - I will check back again at 9:30am.
This recovery will take place behind a (now) locked gate ā so the only access to the recovery area on Sunday will with be with our group ā DNR has assigned us a key and permission to be behind the gate for the day to recover vehicles
As it turns out, there is another vehicle up there (Chevy S-10 Pickup) that also needs to be recovered near the same area as the Cherokee. This vehicle was stolen Friday night (after xj666 left his Cherokee stuck in the mud). It is highly likely (Iām just guessing on this) that they used the stolen vehicle to pull out the Cherokee and then tossed them both down the hill. It is still undetermined whether the vehicle was set on fire intentionally or if it may have ignited after colliding with trees at the bottom of the hill.
Anyone who would like to assist - please PM or call me at (360) 567-3612. Please feel free to call me directly if you have any questions or concerns and I hope a few of you can join us on Sunday. Help is always appreciated...
Please be advised that there will be NO opportunities for off-roading behind this locked gate - this is strictly a work party. Anyone, of course, is welcome to give the snow a try on the open forest service roads in the Yacolt Burn. We have plenty of winches at this time, but can always use help running cables, getting the recovered vehicle onto a trailer and picking up the garbage that is scattered all over the hillside. All participating vehicles must be street legal.
On another note, Mike Smith has offered to donate the burnt out Cherokee to the club so that we can use the scrap dollars for our projects in the Yacolt Burn ā we thank him for his contribution and his consideration is greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your support and we look forward to meeting a few of you on Sunday.
Regards,
Crystal Crowder Pistons Wild Motorsports

Hi Crystal, I'll only be able to help for a couple hours as we have a superbowl party my wife will kill me if I miss. I can help run some cable and pick up though while I am there. Thanks to Mike for the donation!!

A big THANK YOU!!! to all that came out to help on Sunday. More bodies and more man power helped to take the wear and tear off everyone. We all know how much work it is to recover a vehicle. THANK YOU all again!!!!!
