I would also like to get started early. How about we have an early meet at shell and a a second meet at a trail head, or camp ground. in side the forest for the ones who wish to show up later? just a thought.

I was up there today, and it poured the entire day. The trails are pretty sloppy, and it even snowed a bit at the higher elevations. I would imagine it will accumulate more tonight. You guys have fun tomorrow!

Sorry I missed you guy's today. I lost a 15amp fuse on Beaver Dam road, no biggy put another one in. I headed over to Airplane Hill and took a dozen photos of the trail, damage to it, and so illegal by-passes that have developed. On my way to Archer's I lost the same 15amp fuse on C-Line road right before #28B (Archer's FireBreak). Drove up to the top of Canopener, man that thing looks nasty, lots and lots of big rocks & holes towards the top of that trail/obstacle. I tried to get you guy's on the CB but no luck. I went up Archers to higher elevation trying to get you guy's on CB but still no luck. I came back down to Rocky Up-Hill and messed with my wiring for a bit. I tried a 20amp fuse and blew instantly, tried getting you guy's on the CB a few more times. The fuse went to all of my guages(temp, oil pressure ect.), had no turn signals and my battery appeared that it wasn't charging. So shortly after 10:00a.m. I headed towards Liyda Camp, took a small detour over to Back-To-Back Trail(reminded me of Hood Raiser). Then I babied the truck home, pretty frustrating day but I made it home fine. I did see snow at the top Air Plane Hill and 7up trail.

Lets see, we ran University firepower for a bit till its closed, then headed back on Powerline, and then firebreak 5 up to Crushers. There is snow up in them thar hills! Not much, in fact hardly any, but still it was cool to see snow. We then headed across down Cedar and 7 cedars to C-Line and across to Archers. We ran pretty much all of Archers. We stopped and checked out Can Opener. flip.flop is right, its starting to look pretty nasty again. It should prove to be a pretty good challenge for those up to it. We also stopped and checked out Waterfall. We had seen a bunch of folks heading out when we where at Shell, but once in the woods I dont remember running into anyone else the entire day. We saw quite a few bikes and quads (and even some side by sides at the end of the day), but not any other trucks. It was a good day - and I had a blast. Thanks again Tonka for helping guide me up and over all that stuff. This was the first real trip out for me in the Jeep. I learned a lot! Things I learned... - Tonka's jeep can flex pretty dang well. - Automatics are fun - Manuals are a challenge. - The jeep gets better tractions with all 4 wheels on the ground. Wheel hopping gets you no where. - The jeep will get a little tippy when your sideways on a hill. All in all, I was really happy with the Jeep. For not having any lockers and tires full of air it did pretty dang good. It can only get better. I was kind of worried about how the Coopers would do (I had heard mixed results), for being full of air they did really good, and again can only get better once aired down. Sorry we missed you Beatcj - Not sure if you made it up or not. I was going to try and call but didn't have any cell service. Sorry we missed you. I forgot my camera, but did manage to get these on the cell phone. (These are pics, so it must have happened! )

Yeah, we made it up. Eventually. We were aimed to get there about 9:00, but I lost a u-joint on 26 a couple of miles east of North Plains. I think one of the clips came out, and the cap after that. So we found an Auto Zone, and as we turned into the lot, one of the trailer tires rolled off the bead. I had it fixed last week, but the plug came out. There are no tire places open in Hillsboro at that time! So I showed the kids with me how to plug a tire, and get it back on the bead with a rachet strap and a weak quickie mart compressor. Then we went back and hammered in a u-joint. Cleaned up the yoke with a round file. We were unloading by noon. We ran a couple of sections of Powerline, then ran Cedar Tree, then Hogs Back. The upper end is pretty interesting going up, having the Aussie was huge for me. 10 lbs helps, too. Then we ran over and looked at the Can Opener, too. The guy I was with had smashed a header on FB5 last time, so he wanted to stay away from that. His younger brother was riding with me, I tried to talk him into driving, but he doesn't know how to drive a stick. I told him low range, these trails is a GREAT place to learn. I think the beads of sweat from my manual steering kept him away. On the way to Can Opener, we ended up going down Rocky Uphill. The sign on the upper end was marked as Blue, the bottom end is black diamond. We ended up with one rocker panel dent. Somehow missed the end of Can Opener, so we ran Archer's Firebreak back. Looks like the winch anchor is still in good shape. I was concerned that 80 sacks of concrete weren't going to be enough. I took the upper halfs off my doors first thing, I hope I got the last of the mud out of my ear this morning. More pics to follow, I didn't take my camera, but the other Jeep did. I think most of the pics were of us fixing the tire and U-joint.

BeatCJ sorry to here of mechanical mishaps before you even got on a trail, I know the feeling Yah, Rocky Uphill is considered a Blue Trail when descending it most of the time during the year. It does tend to get harder during the rainy season (tore up) like the rest of the trails. Did anyone else notice all of the logging thats going on up there. I didn't even recognize "Little Rubicon"... Ending on a positive note I tore into the electrical gremlins that developed yesterday and found two wires near the fuxe block that had rubbed against the floor boards to much and wore through the insulating rubber. I cleaned, repaired, and relocated the wires. Also found some "hot" speaker wires that were under the drivers seat just resting on the floor boards, which I removed completely. Also found some random wires under the passenger floor mat that was removed as well. On the shop floor I had removed about 12' of wire Started the truck up and the thing ran like a kitten even took it through DEQ today and it passed with flying colors and its desmogged to ;D flip.flop

BeatCJ and flipflop wish we could have ran together maybe next time also sorry you had problems. Rocky up hill was very tore up compared to last time I was there. Ya lot of logging, lot areas!!
Jon, I had the sway bar hooked up you should see it flex with it disconnected. thanks for a much better description of our day. If you disconnect your sway bar your Jeep will flex very well. if you flex well your tires stay on the ground better= better traction I also think you wouldn't have felt so tippy Me and Katie had a blast thanks for running with us. You did very good. Your Jeep is awesome and like you said it can only get better! found the spacers for you also. There at my shop stop by anytime.

Ah, it was all good. The guy I was with (the red one in the picture) said he thought that kind of adventure was all part of the fun.
I'm on my way to a meeting this morning, going to drop my tire off at Dick's, have them put a new one on. Put an end to THAT problem. The most irritating thing is that I know it picked the screw up when someone else was borrowing it. I haven't used the dang thing for 6 months, myself!
I also thought I had a spare u-joint in my toolbox, would have saved an hour of running around. I don't know where it is. It's in a Ziploc Freezer bag with the receipt. Now I need to find it!
