I just did a transfer case swap on my Grand Cherokee to get rid of my roasted 249.(full time 4wd-N-4lo transfer case.) I swapped in a 242(yay 2wd, 4part time, 4 full time, N, 4lo.) but the rear drive shafts I have are the wrong lengths. The shaft from the doner jeep is a little too short, and the one that came out of my jeep is a little too long. (face palm. lol) The shorter one only has about an inch before it pulls off of the tail shaft on the transfer case and falls off. I managed to find a 242 with the same length input shaft, the same gear cut, and all that, so that part was easy. But now I am stuck until I can get my drive shaft right. I want to get the longer one shortened about an inch, but I don't know where to take it. Can anyone recommend a place here in Vancouver?

He's the only one that does my DLs and I've had mulitiple on my xj. Broke 3 rear this last summer. I've seen him a lot lately. Good guy though. The shaft that was attached to the 249 was 1/8" too long to bolt in. The one that we got with the 242 is too short. Only about 1" of the transfer case output shaft is inserted into the yoke. I'm scared to drive it like that lol. Anyone know how much room I need in the slip yoke? Is 1" enough compression room? I was thinking I should get the shaft that was on the 249 shortened 1-1.25"? I have never done this stuff before, so the more brains I can pick the better...

x2 On ken in the driveline shop at Six States. And its actually just west of Northside Ford in that little strip mall.
As far as how much slip yoke to have If it was me I would just measure from yoke to yoke and let the pros take it from there. they will make sure you have enough. I am sure there will be questions on how you use it ect. They are great guys they will get you all fixed up.
If I remember right shortening a DL is cheaper as well. Seems like I am always going the other way around.

I would think that the wrangler DL are more sensitive to changes in your rig. They are so short! I think I am going to putter around in the empty parking lot across the street in 4 part time, with the rear DL out. I need to fire it up!

Why try to figure how much is slips in/out of the TC? MAKE IT FIXED.

Lol, if only i had enough lift (or cash haha) to need an SYE! I just had to get the booger shortened, because the new t-case is. The old TC was getting pretty bad, and the front end was starting to bind up and hop/squeal. I couldn't part the darn thing worth a squat either. This will make is so much better.

Just wanted to say thanks again. Ryan installed the DL today, and once we got the linkage adjusted I took it out for a spin. Woohoo-no more binding! My yard is a little worse for the wear though. haha! Ryan was doing burnouts in the yard while I watched to check if it was still stuck in 4part time, or if we finally had it adjusted right and got it into 2wd.

I was talking about the drive lines in my race truck not my jeep. But it doesnt really matter. Mine works just great in both.

Six States is the place to go!! For whats its worth, my XJ as 6" lift and im not using a SYE. I've never had a problem from that or with vibration. But I also made sure with 6" lift my wheel base is right at 101 3/8". It drives awesome.

But do have friends that have mid 90's to 99 and they all needed the SYE. And on the 95' that I have now I had to do it at 5.5"
