Seems a bit far off but It came to mind and I don't want to let it slip away. Now that the 54 road is open again I was thinking about a Christmas tree run and a play in the snow run at the same time. I usually go up the first weekend in December. I figured I would post this as a feeler thread before putting one in the events page. I will be going for sure and I'm sure Iceman will be as well. Well....that's it ;D A shot of Iceman and Me a few years ago getting our trees!

I was in the Gifford Pinchot headquarters by HWY 500 last week and the guy at the front desk mentioned something about christmas tree cutting permits would be hard to get this year. I kinda got the impression that they might not issue them this year. Thats all I know, haven't investigated any further yet. If any of you have contacts there, maybe check into it.

Hmmmmm thats kinda strange, why would they not sell tags for trees? That is another way for them to make money. Are you sure he wasn't talking about firewood permits? They have cut way back on those.

Fire wood was originally what i was in there for looking for info. I mentioned going up and getting a christmas tree last year around trapper creek and thats what he told me. Something about they arent logging much anymore and there not much is being planted. One of both of us could have been confused but thats the way I heard it... I figure I will inquire as the time gets closer.

Another post has reminded me of this one. I have set a loose date for Saturday the 5th of December for the Christmas tree run. Dont know exactly what part of the woods, but most likely in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. I always go up out of Chelatchie Prairie since they sell permits at the store there. Let me know the date. Not a big fan of going late since I like to enjoy my prize tree!

Just wanted to add the time and meeting location for the Tree Run. Meet at Chelatchie Prairie store at 9am and leave at around 9:15 or so. There is gas and plenty of snacks if you need them at the store. We will meet in the gravel parking lot just across the street from the store. See ya there!

The Amboy Market also has them. They are open on the weekends, too.

Thanks for the offer Bill, unless you grabbed one for me I think I will be getting mine the day of, may have to get one for my mom and my dad as well. The top of the XJ gets kinda full with 3 trees, I look like a rolling tree when I go home. ;D

Joey, I can roll out to Chelatchie for you, or walk across the street and see how many they have. I'm working Saturday, though.
It's too early for me to get a tree, I'm uncomfortable with how dry they get.

I only picked up two permits. yes they are available at Chelatchie Prairie Store. After speaking with the info ranger at GP headquarters, it seems that north of the 41 rd is open and the 54 rd North and South side is open. All spur roads may be searched for Christmas Trees. I will bring all the info with me.
I will also bring the cooker if any one wants to bring Hot dogs.
Sleds and tarps are suggested for tree removal from the forest.
The weather looks to be really cold but no moisture. May be a good time to do some sledding
Just saying
