After this weekends trip I quickly realized I can no longer transmit a clear message. I can pick up others message's crystal clear, but when I try to transmit I come out gargled and weak.
Any thoughts what the problem may be? I've had my CB setup in the Jeep for 4 years and have never had a problem. I did put a new battery in the Jeep last week, but I don't see how that could effect anything. I made sure all the connections were tight.
I have not had the radio tuned with an SWR meter, but like I said I've never had a problem with transmitting or receiving. I was told the mics can go bad overtime, is this true?
Thanks in advance.

yes mics can go bad over time, they are cheap to replace

I guess I'll try and find someone to swap mics with, and see if that's the problem.
I used to get all my CB parts from Joes, but since they closed where's a good local place for CB supplies?

My dad's XJ did the same thing, slowly went out. Pull your Coax cable out of the back of your CB head unit and see what it looks like. My dads was melted away from years and years of use. Mic was fine. A new cable was all it took.
Plus if you need a CB tuned I have an SWR meeter and I tuned mine. Got it to near perfect swr's, I could help you tune yours if needed.

It's a Midland radio with I believe a 4 pin mic cord.
I'll try and do some troubleshooting this week and see what I come up with. Hopefully it's a cheap and easy fix. I just hate not being able to communicate while out on the trail.

You got my CB!!! ;D I have this same issue... or so I am told because I can hear everyone clear, but they can't hear me. I am thinking its an electrical issue, and that I may have fried the radio. I am connected straight to bettery (rather than a fuse) and do not have an inline fuse. That would be the only difference between the CB in my jeep, and the CB being in the FJ Cruiser. I may pick up an inline fuse and give that a shot to see if it filters out some of the electrical noise. I may also try finding a real ground (for the electrical, although the one I am using seems to work). I may also shave some powder coat off my cb mount to improve the ant ground. If it still doesn't work, I may take it all over to Vancouver John and have an expert look at it. If I fried it by having to high of an SWR while transmitting.... I may get a new radio. I may install a smoke signal kit on the Jeep instead. I may get this done by the new years ;D

Some have more adjust ability than other, but that pends on the radio you are using and how far you want to get out.

DUDE!!!! You got my CB!!! Never would have thought your CB was contagious. ;D Well I picked up a new antenna today (tunable firestik). I tried a different mic this weekend and I think I was able to transmit out. I didn't have any static feedback while transmitting, but unfortunately I didn't have anyone to pick up the message so I'm not sure how clear it came out. I'm going to try and pick up a new mic in the next couple days, and get the new antenna tuned (Joey does your offer still stand?). Hopefully I'll be transmitting again by this weekend.

Sure thing! I only ask one thing. When you tune CB's you sometimes have to raise or lower them more then what the antenna adjustment will allow for. Usually this isn't much of a problem because as long as you dont mind it we can get it close. If you want it really good it can take a bit of time. It really all depends. So I guess what I am trying to say is if you have a spring under the antenna to raise it or a way to lower it like flip the bracket that's cool, if not dont worry we can get it close! I will be at the gathering tomorrow if you want we can do it then? Shouldn't take much more then half an hour or so, and there is a nice open spot in the ice rink parking lot. Let me know and I will bring the box and cable.
