So, I'm getting my parts together to install a Ford 8.8 rear in my YJ. I know I want a locker, but I can't decide which one. I don't have the coin for an ARB or OX. I've used a Detroit, and they're great. I've looked at the "lunchbox" lockers, but am concerned about durability. I have a line on a used (600 miles) ECTED, but have read some bad things about them. Soooo, what do you all say?

It's a 31 spline 7/8" pin. My budget is just about $500.

I also read bad things about the E Lockers this is why I chose ARB also thought it would be easier to repair air line than the cable on the ox. I dont like the idea of a cable on my diff covers just seems like a good place to get smashed. Last I think if its you driver as well as your trail rig save your money for a selectable locker. If it mostly a trail rig use a good lunch box unit there fairly tuff and cheep most have lifetime warranty

We have had good luck with the Aussie lockers in my group of friends from up north. They are a lunch box locker but the have worked really well. My friend has them front and rear (8.8) in his Cherokee and loves them. They were an easy install and I don't think they are all that noisy for a locker, but to each hiss own.

X2 on the Aussie locker. I have heard nothing but good things about them from the XJ community. They are cheap and strong. I know allot of guys that daily drive them and not one has broke yet wheeling or on road. Did I mention there cheap ;D

I have an Aussie in my AMC 20. I don't drive it every day, drive a company rig to work, but I'm happy with it. Easy install. I suspect that tires that we run on street driven rigs won't hurt it.

Ahhh a Yukon Zip locker... Hmmm who'd run those? :-) Your right, I dont think they make one yet for the 8.8's but they will probably have one.
Randy's is a great company and had some decent pricing. I ended up getting mine cheaper though through Wayne Hartwig at Alljeep.com . (info at alljeep.com, 866-391-6640). He had the best prices I could find on gears, and lockers (Both ARB, Yukon, and Eaton). I'd shoot him a mail or give him a call and see what he can do...
As much as I am happy with my Zip lockers for now, you can't go wrong with an ARB.

Works great off road & can't hear when on road ( front drive/ hubs constantly turn) + very little feedback when turning sharp on high traction surfaces . I also have a 8.8 (disk brake) in the rear, but I'm running the stock Ford explorer limited slip. This L/S is fairly "tight " & works great in the snow! If I ever decide to do more rocks I will install the Aussie. Toyrocs

Hey Jon,
Here's a good reason to save your pennies for an ARB.

So, is Randy's the cheapest for the ARB? I did a google search and it looks that way. I've emailed vendors of forums I frequent, and they can't seem to touch his prices. I could just try to scrounge some more cash together.

When I was a vendor and price matching "I HATED IT" Theres nothing like making less than nothing money on the price match; BUT A GREAT PRICE ON THE REAL THING! ARB ALL the way. Unless your doing a Lincoln lock D60 on a trail NOT Comp rig.
