Does anyone know about using the material/fabric used to wrap on to exhaust headers, or if there;s some sort of insulating paint or something I can put on my 22re header to contain the heat inside of the header? This is an offroad application so it could and probably will get wet/muddy?
I've heard of rock buggys using some sort of sprayable/paintable stuff on some of the floor panels to insulate them from the heat from the exhaust...
Thanks in advance!

I'm primarily a muscle car guy, and have some info to share. Most header company's will void the warranty w/use of wraps. Most wraps will hold in moisture and start to kill the header. That being said, they do work, just be aware that the heat is now moving downstream...the rest of the exhaust system will now be MUCH hotter. In my opinion, if you plan on keeping the thing, send the header to Jet-Hot and have them coat the inside and outside.

Plasma coating is the ONLY way to go.

There was a company in Milwaukie Oregon call RM Engineering I believe was the name that coats exhaust systems and coats pistons ect. I dont have a number for them nor have I used them. I have seen some headers on a show motor in Baxters auto parts on Mcloughlin in Milwaukie. They appear to be the same looking coating as jet hot.
Just something else for you to check on if you want to try and do it locally.

I had that company RM do the exhaust in my toyota and within a year it started rusting out and flaking off. They told me it was my problem and they wouldn't do anything about it. That was a waste of $600. I had a nother shop out by newburg look at it and he said it wasn"t prepped right. I will never go to RM ever again. But thats just me.

Thanks for the review. I didnt know anything about them. After this I will just send all my stuff out and pay shipping unless someone knows anyone locally that can do this well and stand behind their work?
I dont drive a hard bargain if you screw up as everyone does sooner or later then you stand behind it and fix it. I have no tolerance for businesses that leave the consumer high and dry. I vote with my dollar.
Thanks for tossing that out there muddyracer. I appreciate it. Know if anyone that does a good job in town?
