If anyone wants to go, contact me ASAP for full details. This will be a hardcore run with 35" min tires, double lockers, recovery gear/ winch/ on board air/full survival gear. Plan for snow camping, but we may be able to get to/ use the cabin depending on snow conditions. Cheers.

For all you SNOW WHEELERS here is a teaser from my last Rubicon trip. Dec 27 2010. Rubicon trail just west of Ellis creek. That's a 6' + hole. It didn't roll, but it thought about it! ;D Also note my friends Tucker Snow CAT (circa 1975?) in the background. Cheers. Toyrocs. Attachments:

I love shots like that. Isn't having a snow cat cheating ;D. Cheating? Heck YES! ;D But so is Running 46" Baja Claws at 1.5 PSIG with double beadlocks. Actually I did better in the trees with holes than the Snow CAT. Of course the Snow CAT was WAY better on the hills & open deep soft snow. The design of the tracks on this type Tucker causes the tracks to "submarine" & dig to China when the leading edge of the track(s) enter a deep hole or approach a steep step / berm. Cheers. Toyrocs

Christmas/ Newyears week Rubicon Snow Run report Dec 28 2010: Staged Tow rigs @ Loon Lake Chalet parking lot. Friends circa 1975 Tucker Snow CAT with winches front & rear + me & the mini snow monster. Started about 11am & I had much difficulty crossing the heavily drifted areas accross the first dam. I even had difficulty going DOWN HILL! Not a good sign.
Snow conditions where terrible. About 3' of old soft snow with an additional 2' of soft new snow on top of that. Drifted areas were over 12' deep. Had to remove winter dead fall accross trail in the alligator pit area just east of the old gate keeper. The Tucker led the way accross a SNOW BRIDGE about 10' above the running water below--- I followed no problem. We then picked our way accross the granite bowl. Climbing out of the bowl the Snow cat got a little throttle happy & barried both tracks. The winches would not free it & the shovels came out. 45 min later we were on our way.
We both made it to about 2000' west of Ellis creek where the Mini Snow Monster was swallowed by that sneaky stealthy hole ( the one in the picture). . The Tucker attempted same hole & was denied, then decided to turn around. I continued with Cruzila riding shot gun in the right seat. Made it to Ellis Creek through some awesome holes/ drifts/ snow washouts. One wrong move & it would be roll time! I turned around & we both made it back to the trail head by night fall. Remember: "Rocks are your friends, but SNOW is the best!"
Additional recent Rubicon snow run reports to follow. Cheers. Toyrocs
