That's a tough question...
Our fuel cells have always come with the foam "out" - and then we have to put it in.
Here are our experiences with fuel cell foam:
Pro: In hi-speed off-road racing, keeps fuel from sloshing and interupting fuel delivery.
Con: If you run pump fuel (vs trick)- be prepared to change foam every few years - the new additives cause it to disintigrate and plug filters.
Darel knows how to get the foam out of the cell - I'll ask him when he gets home...

As stated above those are about the only pro's and cons that I know of about fuel cell foam.
My fuel cell came already full of foam. The way to remove it is to reach in through the filler cap (I assume you have a 6 in cap) and pull out the chunks of foam. It is easily replaceable and yes be ready to replace it every few years. In my race truck I still have the original in there going on 4 years so I will change mine out before the 2010 race season. Hope that helps.
I will let Hootie explain the front coil spacers I believe he has pics as well.

We use the foam in our Track/street car and have never had clogging problems from pump gas?? Wonder why. I personally would leave it in since it keeps the fuel more stable while trashing around. Maybe the problems with the foam are from other stuff added to the tank other then gas, like octane boosters, fuel system cleaners, etc. Things that are made to eat up everything in the fuel system to make it cleaner. Just a thought.
