I just received an update from Arlene Brooks (the PNW4WDA Washington Executive Director) that W.O.H.V.A. (Washington Off Highway Vehicle Association) will be taking over the lead (from NMA) for the legal battle to return the NOVA funds back to the motorized recreation community where it belongs.
This is the appriximately $10 million dollars that our government officials robbed from the motorized community for 2009-2010 to support state parks (which do not allow OHV use). This money comes directly from the sale of WA OHV permits and 1% of the gas tax that comes from gas being purchased for use in off-road vehicles.
Be sure to thank NMA (National Motorcycle Association) for getting the ball rolling - they have a long-standing history of taking the lead for off-road political actions - whereas the PNW4WDA has a long standing history of waiting for someone else to do it for them. Thank your local dirt-biker today!
The primary reason why it is a good thing that WOHVA took over the lead is so that there will be a united voice from the entire off-road recreation community and will essentially eliminate the "in-fighting" between the various motorized user groups. For instance, there are many "old" 4-wheelers that would never agree to give funds to support the NMA for fear that it would later be used against the sport of 4-wheeling to further the sport of dirtbiking.
We're all in this together and everyone seems to understand that except for the PNW4WDA - a VERY old fashioned (outdated?)organization...
For more information go to:
www.wohva.org
Donate if you can - this is a huge battle we cannot afford to lose - if we don't fight now, grant funding for motorized recreation could be lost forever. If they succesfully take it once, they will try to take it again - you can bank on it!
I will be asking the Piston's Wild Membership to join WOHVA at our next club meeting - I belive the cost is $100 for a club membership. I am also looking into finding out what an individual membership will cost - more info to follow...
