NO JULY PISTON’S WILD MONTHLY CLUB MEETING
There will NOT be a Piston’s Wild monthly club meeting for July 2017.
We encourage everyone to get out and enjoy your summer and we will see you back in August.
Club members – save the date – Friday evening @ 6:00pm - July 28th for a fun social event.
Stay tuned for more details…
ALSO - please mark you calendar for the next public work party:
Saturday – July 22, 2017
The infamous trail known as C14 aka “Old Ugly” is almost complete…
All heavy equipment work has been finalized and we are down to the nitty gritty.
Please join us for July 22nd to wrap up all of the finish work on the trail.
The more volunteers we have on this day – the earlier the trail will be open to the public!
Meet at Deer Pen Rock Pit at 9:00am to get coordinated with a work crew and get started…
C14 aka “Old Ugly” is approximately a 2 mile trail with just under 1,000 foot elevation drop from top to bottom. This “out and back” trail features two large play areas, an unimproved extreme uphill/downhill section, dozens of switchbacks, and views for days. While natural rock is rare in this section of the forest, there is one “notch” play area with an opportunity to test your flex. Remember that this trail will have no outlet until late 2018, so what goes down, must come back up to exit the trail – keep that in mind as gravity lures to the bottom of the system…
Our primary project of interest is the Yacolt Burn State Forest 4x4 Trail System. Volunteers have worked on building the first three sections throughout 2014 and 2015 and these trails are now open to the public. In 2016 we began work on the newest trail, Old Ugly, and we hope to have it open to the public mid-summer of 2017. Three more 4x4 trails will be under construction for 2017 and even more trails are in the works for the 2018-2019 biennium.
The majority of the trail work parties are open to everyone to participate and get involved. Volunteers are critical to the successful completion of and opening of any new 4x4 trails in the Yacolt Burn.
