Sorry for the late posting on the may run but our first thought was kinda put on hold. So Kira and I were thinking of something different. Sence most of us have never been up there how does Elbe Hills sound. We are double checking on some dates and will post them as soon as I get them.

Do we have a list of the scheduled club runs on the forum?

I might be able to come to E H. It just depends on when the BABY is going to come. I can't be very far away for that. He isn't due until June 11 but you never know. So plan away and I will join if I can.

Sorry for the inconvience that this posting may have caused but going to Elbe Hills will have to wait for a another time due to the ground condtions up there. We are afraid that it will be too nasty and wet to run there.
We are considering a different location for the May run and are looking at the weekend of May 22nd. We are looking into possibly going to Morrow County OHV Park instead. More to come on a confirmation of the new location.
Again, sorry for the inconvience.

I make the trip to Wildhorse Canyon at least a couple times a year and that's over 4 hours away. This would take about 4 hours total. Camping is a must! Its a very new OHV park....but we cant use our 4x4 trucks

Evans Creek...
Timbercrawling at it's finest. I made a day trip up there not too long ago, but there's also campground if you want to make a weekend out of it.

Its a very new OHV park....but we cant use our 4x4 trucks Not true - there are 25 miles of 4x4 trails open to the public. We might experience some intermitent closure situations if the weather is extremely wet. ALL 4x4 trails were open in May for both the 2008 & 2009 seasons. I spoke with them today and they just don't like people coming in during the May-June timeframe with extra large, overly agressive mud tires (ie mudders). 160+ miles of ATV trails 20 miles of dirtbike trails Dry camping $10 per night Dry camping + water $12 per night Full RV hookups $18 per night (only 3 available) - or - Large group (dry) camping area for $35 per night

The reason we decided not to go to EH was that the more I was reading on it the conditions just got worse. This time of year the mud is to deep in some spots for anything smaller than 35in tires and lockers are almost a must. So we were looking at doing something new and we heard about this farily new area near Heppner. Yes it is a 3 to 4 hr drive and I understand that some people cant make it that far on this short of a notice but sence it is such a new trail system we thought it would be a learning trip as well to see how they are setting up there trail system. We picked the week before memorial weekend cause some folks already have plans.

Morrow is a great place to ride BUT none of the 4x4 trails I have seen are worth the drive. We all have differant ideas of what makes a fun trip and Morrow is fun and pretty but except for the rock crawl area nothing you need to pull the lever for. NWQR will be there again this year over Memorial weekend small group this year but it's always a good time.

Thanks for your opinion, but we're going anyway.
We will be bringing the quads and the Jeep. Maybe Morrow County just needs a 4x4 group to provide some constructive feedback on their trails system so it can be better...
I have reserved the group camping area with a picnic table & fire ring (no hookups) for anyone that wants to come up with us. This is a gravel lot, but if anyone needs to put up a small tent - you are welcome to put it on one of our trailers. The group area can accomodate up to 10 RV's. Right now approximately 4 or 5 of those spots are taken. Darel's mom and dad will be arriving there on Wednesday (mid-day) and we should be there late Thursday night. We plan to leave the park on Monday (the 24th).
There are currently NO RV sites with hookups or any cabins available for that weekend - apparently these book up very early in the year for the entire season. There are still some tent sites available in the regular campground.
More important than the challenge level of the trail system is quality time with family and friends. This is also a great opportunity to take a look at the system they built and talk to the creators about why they made the decisions that they made. These are all things we can apply when building trails in the Yacolt Burn.
Last I heard, they had a bunch of schmucks just wanting to go in and tear up the trails with their giant tractor tires. I have never heard of a 4x4 club being actively involved with the maintenance or adoption of that trail system.
If there is a group that is involved, I would be interested in who it is - maybe we can help them out sometime.
So, for planning purposes - who is planning on going out to Morrow County for the weekend of May 20-24th?

I might be able to make it out there for Sat and Sun. I will know more as the week progresses. I will need room for my truck trailer combo. Unless there is another place to park the truck. It doesn't matter to me.

Doug, there is a huge over flow parking area. I have only been there on Memorial weekend and have yet to see it full. Chrystal, don't get me wrong because I love going there. There are some places that could be devoliped into some really nice Class II trails I have not heard of any group that is helping with this trail system, but the county itself is doing a pretty fair job of it. To bad we are not going over on the same weekend it would be fun to get together and shoot the breeze. Have fun!!! Terry
