Can't sleep - so I guess I'll post. Had a great weekend off-road racing at Happ's Event Property in Ethel, WA on 4th of July weekend. We've been working some bugs out of the race rig and with a little bit of help from Winton the motor is much happier now - thanks Winton! This race was a great "test & tune" opportunity for us to get ready for PNW4WDA Summer Convention in Ethel, WA - August 13-15th, 2010. Drag racing all day on Saturday - nothing fancy, just flag start and finish - but I gotta say, I love the drags. Good times, good friends and lots of ponies all around... I won my class which is "E" Class and then paid $5 and jumped to "D" class and got beat out because I could not hold the truck on the line - the rear wheels were pushing me through the brakes causing a "red light" type situation. Paid $5 more and jumped to "C" class barely beat out by one of the "big dogs" - Shelbi Curtis in "Bullistic" - again, having problems getting the R's up for the launch without pushing through the line. Figured life is short and we're here to race - paid $5 more and jumped in the deep end of the pool to A/B class and took 1st place. 16 passes down the drag strip in total - it was a good puppy day! Darel won his class "E" and jumped to "D" for a well earned 2nd place (also struggling to keep the R's up and hold the line) and later jumped to "X" (or unlimited" class) for a respectable 2nd place... Obstacle and King/Queen of the hill competition on Sunday. Winton and Maureen came up to hang out with us in the mud. I didn't do a very good job of taking photos, but here is one with Maureen staging to ride shotgun with Darel, for her third ride of the day - Maureen seemed to like being back with PNW4WDA racing and we were all happy to have her back... Mud, mud and more mud... Some last minute custom water prevention applications. We are accustomed to racing in the mud - but this was in anticipation of the possibility of going swimming - which Darel did in his last run of the day... Even the buggies came out to play! I think it bears mentioning that in the King of the Hill event there a Polaris Rzr side x side in the final round. Most of his competitors were wielding over 500 horsepower but could not get the power to the ground effectively. The one guy who finally beat out the Rzr crawled around the course to narrowly edge out the Rzr for the win. These are my favorite pics from the weekend. Had the very best time. Thank you to Winton for your help with the fine tuning and the last minute "fabricating fix" for the steering to get us to the races - we would not have made it through tech inspection without your help. Thanks Maureen for riding shotgun with me on the course - racing is always so much more fun with friends... Respectfully, Crystal
