I NEED YOUR RSVP - I NEED YOUR RSVP - I NEED YOUR RSVP
Forest Watch Patrol
Saturday - April 21, 2009
1) Meet for Breakfast at Shari's 7:00am (117th & 76th)
2) Leave Shari's @ 8:15am
3) Meet @ Jones Creek Staging Area @ 9:00am
Ideally, I would like to send out 2 teams – one on ATV’s and another in 4x4’s. I would need a minimum of 3 and no more than 5 vehicles for each team to perform two effective patrol teams.
Everyone participating should have completed their Forest Watch Patrol training (I might have some flexibility on this since DNR cancelled the last scheduled training session).
Forest Watch Patrol is a service we provide to the DNR to assist with education about forest etiquette in the Yacolt Burn. We also report vandalism, garbage dumpsites and pick up garbage throughout the day. If discovered during 4x4 patrols – we might even perform some impromptu vehicle recoveries. In addition, the logged hours we patrol can go towards Education & Enforcement grants that bring dollars into the recreational trail system.
I will provide each team with DNR Volunteer vests (which must be worn all day), educational materials to distribute, radios to use during their patrols and latex gloves and garbage bags to pick up garbage. Common courtesy and a smiling face (all day long) are a requirement for working on this project. If you have a bad “experience” with one forest user – you CANNOT carry that impression with you to the next forest user you encounter. If you don’t think you can do this – please don’t sign up for this project. Not all members of the patrol HAVE to interact with the forest users – each team will have a team leader, and sometimes all you have to do is echo the leaders comments and provide support in numbers.
We would meet in the Jones Creek staging area around 9:00am and filter out onto the service roads from there. The two teams will probably meet somewhere for lunch and we would probably continue to patrol until around 3:00 or 4:00pm. As the rules stand right now, there is no trail riding allowed – patrols would be on the gravel service roads only. The (street legal) 4x4’s can cross over on the pavement and patrol the northern section of the Yacolt Burn, but the ATV’s would be limited to the Southern end of the Yacolt Burn.
Again, this is one of the services that we provide to DNR in return for their consideration of additional ATV trails and new 4x4 trails in the Yacolt Burn.
Please RSVP as soon as possible if this is something you can commit to – and whether you would like to be on the ATV or the 4x4 patrol.
Thank you all in advance for your continuing support of this project – your contributions are directly responsible for the possibility of new motorized trails in the Yacolt Burn.
Please call me directly if you have any questions or concerns.
