DNR Motorized Trails & Facility Contractors
DNR has already hired two consultants to work on the design of the motorized trailhead and camping facility as well as the motorized (4x4, ATV, dirtbike) trail systems in the Yacolt Burn.
I had the opportunity to meet both of these contractors on March 24th, for a short tour of the current Yacolt Burn ATV trails. This was primarily a 'meet & greet' to introduce the new contractors to the motorized user groups liasons, Piston's Wild (Crystal Crowder) and Jones Creek Trail Riders (Mike Ames).
From left to right: Josh Rieppe (DNR), Brian Poehlein (DNR), Bob Droll (facilities consultant), Steve Uhles (trails consultant), Jessica Kimmick (DNR), Mike Ames (JCTRA)
Robert W. Droll (Bob Droll) is the landscape architect who is responsible for designing the proposed motorized trailhead and camping facility at or near 4-Corners. Robert W. Droll is based out of Lacey, Washington. We won't have a great deal of interaction with Bob other than letting him know how many camping spaces we recommend (as many as possible) and how big the spaces should be (from tent camping to accommodating full size RV's with large enclosed trailers). Here is his website for more information about his firm: www.rwdroll.com
Steve Uhles is the subcontractor (working for Droll) who is responsible for designing the motorized trail system in the Yacolt Burn. Steve is a very likable guy who is comfortable on a dirt bike, snowmobile, ATV or driving a 4x4. He is based in Redding, California and has quite a history of involvement with off-road recreation. I personally believe that he is well qualified for this project and is genuinely interested in what Piston's Wild members have to say about the proposed 4x4 and ATV trail system in the Yacolt Burn. You can read more about Steve here: www.roc4u.org/uhles.html
All of Piston's Wild members will have additional opportunities to meet with these contractors to discuss the needs of the 4x4 and ATV community. I have tentatively set up our next "on the ground" meeting date with Steve Uhles for April 19th (Sunday). This will be an ATV ride on the proposed 4x4 trails that we would like to present to Steve for consideration. I will follow up with more details when that is confirmed. Any Piston's Wild member (or applicant member) with an ATV or dirtbike can attend this ride.
I apologize in advance for this not being a 4x4 event - we have alot of potential 4x4 trails that we want to show to Steve and we don't want to waste any of our valuable time with him. ATV's can move through the forest much faster than 4x4's. I will be planning a community lunch on that day so that everyone will have an opportunity to meet with Steve and provide input.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Even though I am the liason for Piston's Wild on these projects - EVERYONE'S input will be expected and integrated into the process. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns @ (360) 606-1648.
Thank you again to everyone for your hard work on this project. I can see the light at the end of this tunnel and it's getting brighter every day...
