I guess I am getting spoiled by the action we provided at the Cowlitz County Fairgrounds twice this year.
During the Clark County Fair,, Today,, Sunday Aug 12, 2012,, I attended the Monster Trucks Competition ( and I use the word competition loosely in this case),,,, and I was very disappointed.
I have never been to a motorsport event that I haven't enjoyed... until today. Pretty bad when I am dissapointed by 80 inch tires and one thousand horsepower on 6 different rigs. But I was.
I went to the 2 oclock show with the thought that I would love it and stay at the fair for a few hours and then attend the second show at 6 tonight... Well about halfway through the first show I was thinking unless some really exciting happens I am not really excited about staying and watching that second show.... and when it was done... I wasn't staying. The trucks were loud ( read good ) and had plenty of power to jump the bumps.. ( read good ).. but that was about it. No real competition.. no real purpose.. and nothing really exciting even happened. nothing.
I am thinking that next year... the fair NEEDS the PNW barrel racing and sprint racing on Saturday and Sunday.... or More tuff trucks on those days. I will never attend a sunday monster truck event at the fairgrounds again,,,, unless tuff trucks or something is included. I was very temped to leave mid show. and a Lot of people did leave. ( at the Cowlitz Fair the stands remained full till the end of the event. ) ( but the slow part of that event... was.... The Monster Trucks.) ( or mini monster trucks as it was. ) The crowd fortunately did wait and was rewarded by our PNW sprint races following the mini monster trucks.
Anyone else attend the show today? . that is all.

I hear ya Dave. Kayla, my dad, step mom and myself attended the Friday showing of the tuff trucks and dare I say I was disappointed. Not only did they have a low turnout of rigs but the track was terrible and the hosting staff that ran the show just did a terrible job. One tractor to tow rigs out was not working well and they hardly knew how to do there job, but the show did run smoothly for the most part. The tracks hardest obstacle was at the beginning which broke a bunch of rigs right off the bat and that wasn't making the crowd happy. Should have had the hard part at the end. Water hole was a mud puddle at best as well. Not many well setup rigs to watch which I enjoy since they tend to move around the course pretty fast. None of my family was particularly pleased with the show, and we have attended the tuff trucks at the fair since I could remember going years and years ago. Not going back next year if it stays the same which is sad. We too mentioned the barrels and sprints. Bring it back to Sunday and make it a tuff truck/barrel race/sprint race day and it would be an awesome show worthy of sitting on hard bleachers for! End of long rant ;D

Hey Dave and Joey,
I agree it would be awesome to have the PNW4WDA racing at the Clark County Fair. We could probably work out a deal with the Fairgrounds Board pretty easily...
The only problem is (and always has been) scheduling conflicts. The closing weekend of the Clark County Fair is ALWAYS the exact same weekend as PNW4WDA Summer Convention (the biggest race of the year). The first weekend of the fair "might" be an option - but most racers wont risk breaking their rig one weekend prior to Summer Convention.
Awesome idea! Just bad timing...

Crystal I wonder what the chances are that the PNW would bring Summer Convention to the Clark County Fair? Just a question. I dont know whats involved with putting on Summer Convention but it might be worth a look and could probably make the PNW some more money.

Again - an aweseome idea - but those nagging little logistical issues keep blocking the path...
Barrel racing is only one of 6 events that take place at Summer Convention: There are Bracket Drags, Comp Modified Drags, Barrels, Obstacle Course, Cross Country Course and Team Relay. Some years you can also add sprint racing.
It takes close to a 100 acre property just to have room for all the courses and space to park for camping and spectator parking. This is a monster three day event...
Again - I love the train of thought in this thread...
Keep going with your ideas - but Summer Convention would be a tight fit for the Clark County Fairgrounds during the fair (for todays standards).

So talking to Gary from Woody's. The tuff trucks show was under bid by another promoter. If you went you didn't see any big names or the Woody's team there as they boycotted the event. It was only one day instead of 2 like normal.
Needles to say the people that really go an put on a show didn't go. It was a big loss to the fair in my opinion. People go to see the tuff trucks on the last 2 days and see there favorites from years past. Funny thing people not involved knew of the changes and were posting on there facebooks that car x or company y which was there favorite to watch weren't going to be there because of the change and neither were they.

i showed up for the race friday and it was super unorganized. the guys running it were more that rude and almost broke out into blows between a few guys it was more entertaining than the show. If these guys are gonna run it next year I won't waste my time showing up. I did let the misses run my scout through and she did pretty good for never driving the scout besides pulling it in and out of the garage

I laughed my butt off at the guy who did a quick cookie at the end and showered the workers with dirt. Serves them right for taking the fun out of it. I think the fair board needs to hear this from the fans and the racers about the event.
