How long are we thinking this will be? What do we need to bring? And is this open to ALL types of riders abilities? Are the JC guys showing the same trails? Or are we staying more to the North? Bill

Hey Bill,
Sorry so late - I've been away from the computer all day.
Bring yourself, your ride, your gear and your lunch. It's supposed to be unseasonably warm - so bring plenty of water.
I'm thinking at least 5 hours and no more than 8.
All rider abilities - we'll be stopping often and discussing options.
Most of our 4x4 trails are near the 4-corners area. We will discuss with Steve which trails that Jones Creek riders showed him and expand out from there.
I will provide the lovely yellow DNR vests for everyone.
See you tomorrow too?
Crystal

I may be able to attend. I will have to leave early though if I do, like around 12 or 1. I managed to hop on the riding mower after Jones Creek today to mow, thatch, and air-rate. So I have to be home early enough to mow it up and fertilize, as well as go to church at 6:00pm.
So if you see me, good times, but if not then you know I'm hard at work so have fun for me!

When it rains it pours, First I was going to go but then not.
First I went to get the 300ex.....of course flat tire due to hole. Plus dad hurt his back so he couldn't help me get it out of the trailer, and of course it was the bike in the front of the trailer so others would have to be pushed out then back in which I cant do by myself. Then I would need to swap the tires to dirt since they have sand ones on now.
Second I thought YFZ450, dad was hesitant about letting me use it, so I decided not to ruffle any feathers. It is a clean bike that has never seen anything but sand. So thats a no go.
Third I thought wait, I have a motorcycle that I can use. OOH but wait not, it has expired tags......crap, crap, crap.
Fourth I thought about using my banshee, but then again Its not meant for that and I would have to drive to get my dirt tires at my father in laws house at 10:00pm at night. So nope.
Fifth, I said I'm done with this and gave up trying. ;D Next time I will plan a bike before hand for the "just in case" chance I can go, which would be a heck of allot better then doing this last minute, not to mention smarter.
OK, I'm done venting. You guys have a good time tomorrow!

I was just wondering but the Columbian Newspaper had a small story about an ATV accident at Jones Creek the same day you guys were there. It happened at 1:40 in the afternoon. Guy got separated from his group and then got in a bad accident. Just wondering if any of you heard about this.
I would assume he was on the trails illegally, but hopefully he was on the gravel roads.

I wonder if they were on the trails? Man injured in quad accident recovering Monday, April 20 | 8:38 a.m.
BY LAURA MCVICKER COLUMBIAN STAFF WRITER
A man injured Sunday after falling off his quad off-road vehicle near Jones Creek Campground was listed in satisfactory condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Carl G. Chosa, 54, of Camas is believed to have suffered a medical problem, which caused him to fall off the quad in the area north of Washougal, authorities said.
East County Fire and Rescue responded about 1:40 p.m. and reported the man had become separated from his group, fell and managed to extricate himself.
He crawled to Northeast Boulder Creek Road. Life Flight helicopter was called and transported Chosa from the Washougal Motocross Park to Southwest Washington Medical Center.columbian.com/article/20090420/NEWS02/704219998

I was just hoping it wasn't anyone from the group riding that day, although I'm sure I would have hear about it on here.
Still would like to know if he was in the "legal" area to ride.

EVENT RUN REPORT - APRIL 19, 2009ATV Ride with DNR Trails Consultant - Steve Uhles This run actually started Saturday afternoon after Dave "Hootie" called and told us that he could not join us on Sunday because his bike wasn't running. So while he was at work, we stopped by his shop on the way home from the JC road repair project on Saturday and stole his bike from his locked shop. Tip for the day: NEVER give Darel and Rick your access codes to your shop. Darel and Rick took it back to Darel's shop and worked on it until it was ready to go for Sunday. Kira even washed it before loading it on the trailer (bless her little heart). Sunday morning started the day at 8:30am meeting Steve at 4-Corners where we geared up and talked about what our goals were for the day as well as reviewing which trails that Steve had already surveyed the previous day with the Jones Creek Trail Riders. Darel Crowder and Bill Hutchens worked with Steve to lay out a map plan for the day. In the meantime, Kira handed out the "functionable yet fashionable" bright yellow DNR vests to everyone. We spent most of the day riding 4x4 trails in the SW corner of the Yacolt Burn. Our first trails started just West of 4-Corners from the pavement on Rawson road heading up into the Western edge of the forest. I would estimate that we ran approximately 3-4 miles of trails in the area. These trails have experienced extensive use by 4x4's over the past year and were quite challenging at times for the sport ATV's - the utility ATV"S served as tow rigs throughout the day (thanks Bill, Brandon & Cheri). Steve Uhles indicated that the trails here had great potential and would require some go-arounds for the extra-wet areas, but were overall excellent candidates for proposed trails. Rick and Dave will have to disclose who gets the cowbell... After running that section of trails we jumped down to the "flats" or the area just South of 4-corners and ran another section approximately 3-4 miles in length. Again, these trails have been heavily used and posed multiple challenges for the sport bikes. Massive deep mud holes - one after another. Here we all are taking a breather and removing layers because it was warming up nicely and it's alot of work digging little bikes out of BIG mud holes. Dave had the smallest bike that day and he earned EVERY mile we rode... Again, Steve felt that these were all viable 4x4 trails but would require some drainage solutions to be sustainable. After that section we jumped back up to 4-Corners for a quick lunch, talked to a few folks that came in to ride service roads for the day and then off again to hunt for more trails to share with Steve. This time we headed North out of 4-Corners just to the east of the road that heads to the Larch Corrections Center. There, Bill Hutchens shared with us a little ATV trail that we did not even know about. Not viable for 4x4's (too narrow and would require lots of tree removal to make into a Jeep trail). So we just recommended that Steve consider it for another ATV trail in addition to the trails the JCTRA had shown him on Saturday. That ATV trail popped us out onto some nicely maintained service roads with some phenomenal views. We recommended this to Steve as a much desired connector to 4x4 trails coming up next on our tour. Next on the tour was our attempt to access Shale Trail - we were able to share with him about 4-5 miles of trails leading up to the Shale area, but were unable to reach Shale due to deep snow still on the trails. We will revisit this with Steve at a later date when the snow melts off. Again, Steve said these trails were excellent candidates for proposed 4x4 trails and would require some minor clearing and draining solutions. I don't have any pictures from the last paragraph because the fan stopped working on my bike and I was off and running back to the trailer while the rest of the group continued on with Steve in an effort to view more trails. It was reported to me later that the group continued to run into deep snow blocking access to additional trails that we wanted to share with Steve. While I was waiting back at 4-Corners for the group to finish their tour - I spent my free time harrassing some local hoodlums who were using 4-corners as a drag strip and also took some scenic view pictures from 4-Corners (the proposed location for the motorized trailhead and camping facility). Can't you just picture yourself camping for the weekend, trails to play on, space for all of your friends and family to camp with you -- and this is the view... Best part of all --you only had to drive 30 minutes out of Vancouver to get here... All in all, it was a great day and those of us who were there are infused with new enthusiasm about the possibilities. Steve is a great guy to work with and is more than qualified for this project. We look forward to seeing his proposal - I just know we won't be dissapointed. For those of you who couldn't make the run on Sunday - we missed you and I wanted to introduce you Steve: Again, this was just Part 1 of the trails we want to show Steve - we will finish showing him another 10 miles or so of trails when the snow clears. In addition, JCTRA showed Steve about 10 miles of trails on Saturday that we are also asking him to consider as potential short wheel base 4x4 trails. Respectfully reporting, Crystal Crowder
