I want to do a swap on my CJ. I was looking at 44's from an old wagoneer since allot of them had factory lockers. Some had factory option manual hubs as well. I don't want the vacuum disconnect. Does anyone have a set? I would also be interested in the AMC 20 rear axle as well if they have that since they are a bit stronger then the 44.
The years I'm looking for are from 87 to 91
HELP! Thanks

I believe 87 to 91 are drivers side drop, is that what you want?

Correct, I don't want that and they do come like that in them. Maybe I should just buy some used axles from someone? The rears are good though. I dont recall if they put passenger side ones on wagoneers?

Yes, the earlier Wagoneers had passenger drop front axles, but it's had to find a centered rear, because many of them had QuadraTrac. I believe, (off the top of my head) the best year is '76, it has the right spindle to accept the Ford bearing hub so you can keep your 5 on 5 1/2" bolt pattern wheels. Too early and you end up with front drum brakes. Then you have some flexibility in the rear axle, Scout rear, Ford 9". If you don't mind changing to 6 lug wheels, a later Waggy rear and earlier front would work well. Mr. N's site is chock full of good info: 77cj.littlekeylime.com/web_rs44.html I have a ton of additional links, if you want to looks some more.

Thanks again for the info, but since this post work has came to a halt and my money has now been diverted, BUT I am still going to research for the best option. I did find a 72 ford F100 with a 9" rear and a 44 front for 500 bucks on craigslist. The truck is in sweet shape too. I think that would keep my 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. I don't really care if I switch bolt pattern, but keeping my stock pattern would be preferable. If I find a good deal I may have to just pick something up and put it in in the future.

if you buy the ford,, can possibly sell engine or body parts to recoup money... right now the hulk with an engine is worth and easy 250... so that is half your axle cost right there.. good luck. I have several 44 fronts and 9" rears available through friends.. but would likely cost more than your net 250. but would be easier because they are loose and require no removal effort. Dave.

Thats what I was thinking, the motor died so thats why its cheap, but the rig is so nice I would hate to scrap it.
