Hi all! My name is Phil, and I've been testing the waters for a little while trying to see if I'm a good fit for the club. I bought my 1993 Toyota pickup a few months ago with the knowledge that I had a lot of work to get it where I'll want it. Like most builds, I found more than I hoped to, but I’m pretty persistent so I decided to do a heart transplant. I’ve sent my 22RE long block to Tod @ engnbldr in Portland, OR for work because I don't have the ability to do on my own: - Hot tank over the weekend - Drill and hone cylinders - Machine the crank - Deck the head (if needed) - New valves (and guides if needed) - Machine the head - 261 cam After all the machine work, I’ll be getting new pistons, rings, rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washer set, timing chain set w/ steel rail, oil pump, water pump, brass freeze plugs and stainless steel valves. While I’ve got it out this far, I’m also getting my flywheel machined, and I’ll grab a centerforce clutch w/ organic face. I’d like to know what you guys think. Should I do something else while I’m this far? ^^^I swear this still isn't to scale... For me there's no blue

Hey Phil. Sounds like your doing it right. I'm not really a Toyota guy so I'm not sure if there's some special Toyota tricks that you should be doing. But I'm sure that some of our Yota guys will chime in if your missing anything. Are you going to have Tod do the whole engin build or just the machine work?

Tod and I made arrangements for him to do the entire long block rebuild. I sell AR500 steel targets, and he was an ARMY sniper, so we worked out a pretty good deal . As for the rest of the build, I went down to D&R communications in Clackamas, and Harold there wants to sell me: - Cobra 29 LTD Classic for $129.99 w/ $20 Mail-in rebate - CB 26 Antenna $19.95 (5 1/2 foot) - 18 ft. of coax cable for $19.95 (He says it's required in order to tune the antenna properly) - Mounting bracket $17.95 Comes out to a grand total of $187.80 before the $20 MIR. I'd really like to know if I'm getting hosed on this deal and if the Firestik antenna is better... Anyway, I've got a lot of work waiting for me in my garage gotta clean up everything and find out what else I need to replace haha..

The 18 feet thing seams like an old wives tale to me. That said I have 18 feet of coax in my LJ because of how far the antenna is from the CB.
I have a 4 foot tunable firestick antenna. The higher up you can get your antenna the better its going to work. Im assuming that the antenna he's selling you will be tunable.

Yeah, he said that if I buy the whole setup from him, they'll tune it for free... I was thinking of getting the 8 footer, but I'm afraid it might be too big haha... bigger is better, right?

Does the price range sound pretty reasonable?
