The bell was passed twice on Saturday. This post will be about how I received the bell. It was the end of the day and we were just pulling up to waterfall. I went to lead the group in through the filter. I didnt make it through the filter. My first attempt I was denied so I backed out and tried a different line. On my second line my wet tires couldnt get the traction that I wanted and I slid in between a rock and a hard spot. While in this spot I had a front driveline that was spinning on the rock directly below me. So we pulled some line and winched me forward into a bigger rock and a hard spot... So we then went to do a side pull to slide the front of the Jeep over. Thats when the winch line snapped. Broken winch line, front diff into a rock, rear diff into a rock, it was time to pull out the jack. Paul and I climbed down into the mud so we could get a ratchet strap around the axle to limit droop. We then used the high lift to jack up the passenger rear. As the passenger rear tire was being lifted into the air the tire was lifting up the two rocks that it was pinned between. Once the rear of the jeep was up and the rocks had fallen back to the ground we place a log under the passenger rear tire, lowered the Jeep back down and Gordon winched me back to the safety of a dirt trail. I earned this cowbell!!! And I earned it on a trail filter. If you dont get stuck you're not trying hard enough!!!

Sorry about rigging your winch at too much angle. I was really only hoping for a few inches to the drivers side then give it another go. But. Look at the bright side we can use it for winch extentions.

Look at the bright side we can use it for winch extentions. I was thinking about it and Ive done way worse things with that line then what we did on Saturday. Things like run it underneath my jeep dragging it along both axles. But I was running a roller fair-lead at that time. But the rollers got damaged when we did that and thats when I switched to the hawse fair-lead. I had polyurethane rollers because of the synthetic line. After doing more research it looks like that if you are going to use synthetic line for hard angled pulls a roller fair-lead with quality rollers is the way to go. Factor 55 had a hawse fair-lead that they say will work with the synthetic line. Its a thicker design then most hawse fair-leads which should make the hard angle pulls easier on the winch line. I went down to Van-Port Rigging today and picked up my new winch line. After seeing the new rope next to the old it was probably just time to replace it.
