Like they say - it's good to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Now, more than ever is a good time for all of us to be learning more about the Sierra Club and how they operate as well as keeping an eye on what they are focusing on in Oregon. oregon.sierraclub.org/It's important to recognize that they are an extremely organized, very powerful, highly motivated, well funded organization and should NEVER be underestimated. On the flip side - they also do some good things for the planet as a whole. I personally believe that some forest areas should be protected as wilderness. The disagreement lies with how much acreage should be reserved and where exactly those wilderness areas are located. Just my thoughts... Crystal

I would agree. We do need to keep tabs on them, and find out how we can work with them, when possible. I think that statement, "how we can work with them" scares a lot of folks. I can understand that, but ultimately even with oposing views two parties working together are far more productive than two working against each other. I would also agree that they do some good for the planet as a whole. The problem I have is that at times their views and actions are a bit extreme. I would like to see more work from the Sierra Club that is aimed at all users of a forest vs the (at times) select few. This being said they are an extremely well organized group with deep pockets. One other thing - I do consider myself an enviromentalist. yep, thats right. I am a greeny. You caught me. I am enviromentalist that drives a jeep. Ultimately at the end of the day we are all trying to enjoy and protect the same thing. How we get to that spot in the woods may differ, but ultimately the beauty of nature is what we are all out to enjoy. I wish that point wouldn't be lost some times.... on both sides.

Crystal and Jon, I completely agree. We (as in dezert racers) have been fighting (trying to work) with them for MANY years. DEEP pockets in one area with them, shallow pockets in many areas with us, we all need to get along. Just WE are right... ;-)
